Bio
Zach Evans rushed for nearly 5,000 yards and 76 touchdowns during his career at North Shore High School in Houston, Texas. He received USA Today High School All-American honors in 2018 and was a five-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class. 247sports ranked Evans as the No.2 running back (Bijan Robinson was No.1) in the nation and the top overall player in the state of Texas. Evans received offers from a ton of top schools, including Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, and others.
Evans had originally intended to sign with Georgia but after multiple suspensions during his senior season—including being forced to sit out the state championship game—the Bulldogs released him from his letter of intent. He ultimately signed with TCU, becoming their first ever five-star signing. In nine games as a freshman, Evans ran for 415 yards on 54 attempts. He added 76 receiving yards and scored four touchdowns.
Evans took on the RB1 job in his sophomore season, leading the team in carries in five of his six games. Unfortunately, a toe injury ended his season at that point. Still, Evans finished the season as TCU’s leading rusher with 648 yards and five touchdowns on 92 attempts. He added 10 receptions for 130 yards and another score.
Following the 2021 season, Evans entered the transfer portal and signed with Ole Miss for his junior campaign. He started the year off as the top dog but it wasn’t long before he was surpassed by freshman Quinshon Judkins. While it was a disappointing turn of events, Evans still had the best season of his collegiate career. He finished the season with 144 carries for 936 yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught 12 balls for 119 yards and a receiving touchdown.

Bottom Line:
Zach Evans was never able to seize the starting role at Ole Miss, but he showed us enough to think he could be an effective runner at the NFL level. He is a smooth runner with an excellent combination of speed, acceleration, and explosion. Evans compliments his athletic traits with some flashes of physicality and power. He does not possess the receiving skills, nor the pass blocking to warrant three-down usage, however. Instead, Evans projects as a two-down back who will fit best in a zone-blocking scheme that will allow him to get north and south and into space where he can let his explosiveness get to work. He will likely be a Day Two selection in the NFL Draft. For dynasty, draft capital, landing spot, and pro day performance will dictate whether he is a late first rounder or a round two pick.
