Week 7 Thursday Night Showdown on DraftKings

Jaguars vs Saints DraftKings Showdown

Showdown Captain mode is a DraftKings tournament where you have $50,000 to create a lineup using 6 players from a standalone single game. One of those players will be your captain. The captain costs 1.5 times their salary and will accumulate 1.5 times the points. As with every slate, GAME THEORY IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT. Even more so in Showdown, you want your lineup to tell a story of how the game will go. There are a lot of options based on how you see the game going but ALWAYS make sure there’s correlation between your players.

Injuries to Monitor

Trevor Lawrence was injured at the end of the game on Sunday. He practiced on a limited basis and the Jags seem confident he’ll play. He is in jeopardy of missing the game on a short week.

Zay Jones has missed three games this season due to a knee injury and will likely miss again.

Chris Olave is dealing with a toe issue but played through it last week and has been practicing on a limited basis.

Derek Carr has a shoulder/chest injury that has limited him but has been playing through it.

Jamaal Williams has been designated to return from the IR it’s unknown whether he will play.

Juwan Johnson has an injured calf and hasn’t played since Week 3 and likely won’t play here.

Breakdown

The Jaguars have won three straight games and are 4-2 on the season. They’ve averaged 28.3 points per game during their winning streak. They’ve thrown the 11th most passing yards and are middle of the pack in rushing yards so far this season. Defensively they’ve allowed the most passing yards in the league. They’ve faired better defending the run allowing the 6th least yards on the ground.

The Saints had a rough outing last week against Houston putting up only 13 points one week after a 34-0 shutout in New England. They’re struggling offensively averaging only 15 points excluding the Patriots game. They’ve played well defensively as they’re top 10 in yards allowed passing and rushing.

Obviously this one is gonna come down to the health if Trevor Lawrence. If he plays I like the Jaguars pass catchers much more but still won’t play Lawrence at Captain. If he can’t go I will play some CJ Beathard but will focus more on the Saints side and a lower scoring game atmosphere. If that’s the case I think you can play both defenses and kickers. Maybe not all in the same lineup but we’ve seen these prime time games get pretty ugly this year. In either scenario I like the Saints pass catchers and will likely build around them.

Fantasy football

Captain/Flex

Travis Etienne $15,300/$10,200

Etienne has been one of the most productive backs in football to this point. Early concerns about his workload have been put to bed. He leads the league in rushing attempts and is top ten in both targets and receptions among RBs. He’s forced the 3rd most broken tackles as well. I will say that his upside could be slightly capped against this Saints defense especially if Lawrence can’t go. With that being said he’s still one of the top options at captain.

Alvin Kamara $15,600/$10,400

Despite missing three weeks Kamara is tied for the 3rd most receptions among RBs. The Jaguars have allowed the 3rd most receptions to opposing RBs. He’s averaged 19.2 DraftKings points per game since returning.

Chris Olave $13,500/$9,000

Olave put up two duds in weeks 4 and 5 but he’s been incredible otherwise. Double digit targets in those other four games and at least six catches and 86 yards. He has a 25% target share and an ADOT of 14.2 yards. The Jaguars have allowed the most yards through the air this season.

Chris Kirk $12,000/$8,000

Kirk leads the team in targets and yards. He has a 24% target share and over the last five games has averaged 17 DraftKings points per game. The Saints have allowed nearly double the amount of points to slot WRs compared to outside receivers. Kirk has played 79% of his snaps from the slot.

Derek Carr $13,200/$8,800

Carr had his best game of the season last week throwing for 353 yards. Granted it took 50 pass attempts but it’s still encouraging to see him look healthier. The Jags have allowed the most yards through the air. The game plan should clearly be to throw the ball at home in a dome and likely plays into Carr as a captain.

The Rest

Trevor Lawrence $9,600

I’m not gonna go into a statistical analysis of Lawrence. Instead I’ll simply say if he plays you play him. However I do think the injury concerns matched with this Saints defense are a strong enough case to keep him from the captain spot.

Calvin Ridley $8,400

After an incredible first game, Ridley has been a bit of a disappointment. He does have back to back games with eight targets and has four games this year with at least eight targets. He’s averaging 14 yards per reception and has an ADOT of 13.4 yards. He’s also top ten in air yards. He could be slightly lower owned in the captain spot but I don’t know if I’ll go there.

Michael Thomas $7,000

Thomas has a 22% target share and is averaging 7.8 targets per game. While he may not offer much upside he has a high floor due to his pass catching. He’s caught at least four passes in every game and has at least 50 yards in all but one game.

Evan Engram $5,800

Engram leads the team in receptions and has the 3rd most receptions among TEs. He has the 5th highest target share among TEs. At least seven targets in five straight games and has at least six receptions in four games.

Rashid Shaheed $5,000

It’s practically a lock for Shaheed to catch a long bomb each game. He’s averaging 18.6 yards per reception and has an ADOT of 17.5 yards. He can easily pay off this price tag with one play.

CJ Beathard $8,600

Beathard isn’t anything special. If he plays I think he can be serviceable enough for the Jags receivers. He has thrown multiple TDs in 5 career games and has five games throwing for over 270 yards. This Saints defense could be enough to stay away from Beathard as a play but he could be good enough at a lower ownership to warrant a play.

Taysom Hill $6,200

The Taysom Hill experience is annoying. He could score zero or have two TDs. Last week he randomly had eight targets after having no more than two in any game. He’ll likely get a couple carries as well. He’s an extremely volatile play that’s likely too expensive but could pay off.

Jamaal Williams $4,200

Williams is technically eligible to come off IR. Either way I’m not playing him. It’s that simple.

Foster Moreau $3,200

It’s looking like Juwan Johnson will miss another game so Moreau is absolutely in play here. He scored his first TD of the year two weeks ago and caught all four of his targets last week. He doesn’t provide much upside but is likely the best non kicker or defense play under $5k.

Tank Bigsby $2,200

Kendre Miller $1,800

These guys will likely see 3-6 touches and won’t get you a zero as a salary saver.

Jimmy Graham $600

The corpse of Jimmy Graham always has a chance at a random TD. That would more than pay for this cheap salary.

Brenton Strange $1,000

Strange had three targets and caught a TD last week. You’re basically hoping for the Jimmy Graham random TD here. I’d have to play a lot of lineups to get there but maybe.
