This weekly series looks at two consensus NFL fantasy sleepers outside of the top-24 that I am the highest on and why. Each week, I will break down the case for both players, giving my view as to why they are strong flex spot starts. I will compare where they are ranked, and give my own ranking for comparison. Without further ado, here are our Week 7 sleeper candidates!
Week 7 Sleeper RB
David Montgomery — Consensus Rank: 29 My Rank: 16
Heading into the bye week, Montgomery is averaging 14 carries a game for 45 yards. He is also averaging one catch for 14 yards and has two touchdowns on the year. Not great, Bob! The Bears have not been the offensive juggernaut most expected them to be this season. Coming out of the bye, I expect the Bears to have done some self scouting. This self-evaluation will lead to offensive adjustments. One of those adjustments is getting a play-maker like Montgomery more involved in game flow. His snap percentage has yet to top 70 percent but has climbed each week. The Saints defense has not allowed more than 83 yards to a single rusher. They’ve also allowed 3 rushing touchdowns. Montgomery’s ability to create his own yards will help him overcome his offensive line’s woes. This will lead to plentiful fantasy points.
Week 7 Sleeper WR
Calvin Ridley — Consensus Rank: 26 My Rank: 23
In week 7, Ridley and the Falcons will take on the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams have traded for Jalen Ramsey and have been shuffling their secondary. Because Ridley’s teammate Julio Jones will draw the majority of the defense’s attention, Ridley will exploit the more favorable match-up. In addition, the Falcons defense has played poorly all season. This will result in more possessions for the offense. Because they are often playing from behind, Ridley will have plenty of opportunity to score points in bunches.
