Top 5 Week 3 Takeaways
Another week down and all I have to say is Week 3 reminded me of the darkside of fantasy football. Between the poor play from stars, to the injuries.. I got slapped in the face with a glove, 1920’s-style. Here are my top 5 takeaways.
5. Tom Brady
So my top takeaway from Week 2 was going to be Tom Brady and the “Tompa Bay” offense. Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts made a show not happen, but little changed in Week 3. Honestly, it makes sense with no Evans or Godwin, but still… The Goat was picked to be a QB1 and I thought he would be closer to top 5 than QB12. He’s QB 28, behind guys like Matt Ryan and Mitch Trubisky. Ruh-roh Rhaggy! Tampa is passing 58.6% of the time, or just ahead of teams like GB, Baltimore, and NE, who we all expected to be run-heavy. Overall, I’m not too worried because I think it’s been a weird start to the season, but it’s been rough for people who invested in the offense featuring the QB who led the league in pass attempts last year.
4. Mr. Limited
So even worse than the TikTok’s Russell Wilson has been making has been his effect on the Broncos offense. Broncos scored 11 points versus SF and 16 points against the Texans. For reference, the Bears scored 19 against SF and 23 against Houston… woof! Again, I am leaning patience here because of the talent around him and Russ’ ability himself, despite being QB25. It’s again, just a very weird start to the season. However, I think coaching is having a strong (negative) effect on this Denver team. Whereas TB needs to get their horses back, Denver needs to turn off the console, blow in the cartridge, and start over.
3. Khalil Herbert
If you have been paying attention to what I have been saying all offseason, Khalil Herbert has been my dynasty buy since the regime change in Chicago. In 5 games David Montgomery has been hurt or missed, he averages over 111 total yards. More than that, he looks the part from the eye-test and clearly has juice. I think he’s a much better fit for an outside zone scheme and looking at the contract situations, Herbert is likely the one staying in town. I was bummed for Monty because you never wish for injury, but Herbert is the real deal. If you can acquire him, I would, and all I do is complain about the Bears offense as a die-hard fan.
2. Tee Higgins
I was very worried to see him take a monster hit so recently after being concussed, but we were all relieved to see he passed the concussion protocol. He is listed with a toe issue in a short week, playing Thursday versus Miami, in what should be a grab your popcorn kind of game. All that said, I am so excited to see him ball out and arguably be the alpha in Cincy. Courtesy of @jagibbs_23, Tee and Chase have run 562 simultaneous routes in the pros. Higgins has 15 more targets, 170 more air yards, and 15.7 more PPR points. I was totally out on Chase at his ADP this offseason and was all about Higgins ADP, including grabbing him in SCF12. I hope he can continue to Tee-off this season… I’ll see myself out now.
