Buy Low Candidates: Week 2
It’s officially overreaction time as Week 1 has come to a close and we get ready for Week 2 of NFL action. So, while league mates scramble to the waiver wires for Nyheim Hines, Myles Gaskin and Benny Snell, I’m here to dish up some names of guys who are already being counted out after lack luster week 1 performances. Here is the Week 2 Buy Low.
QB’s and RB’s
Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams QB- 11.5 week 1 points
Goff actually played decent football against the Cowboys on Sunday night. The Sean McVay play action system looked good as Goff threw for 275 yards. He failed to throw a touchdown however, which resulted in only 11.5 fantasy points. The Rams running back committee got a few TD’s which affected his fantasy stats as well. The numbers will come be there eventually if they can become more efficient in the red zone. Goff still has a great WR duo in Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. Right now, is a good time to get you some Jared Goff shares while he’s still under the radar.
David Montgomery, Chicago Bears RB- 8.4 week 1 points
Due to a lingering groin injury, it was uncertain on how big of a role Montgomery would have. He still managed to get 13 carries for 64 yards and one reception. He wasn’t used as much in garbage time with Tarik Cohen being the primary pass catching back. With three of the next four games being at home, Montgomery could be a good add if you can get him in a trade.
Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals RB- 5.1 week 1 points
Projected as a top 10 PPR back this year, Mixon stumbled out of the gates. He had his first fumble since the end of the 2017 season. OVERREACTION CITY! But really, he will be fine. It has to be concerning that he has one of the worst offensive lines in football protecting him.
However, Mixon is still ridiculously talented. He has good speed and great hands and can make players miss with his feet. The 19 carries and 69 yards are just a sign of what’s to come this season. With hardly any competition in the backfield, you have to get in your lineup because there is too much potential to waste. It should be noted that it was Joe Burrow’s first NFL start, and Mixon will get more passes thrown his way out of the backfield as the season progresses.
WR’s and TE’s
Jalen Reagor, Philadelphia Eagles WR- 5.5 week 1 points
The Eagles drafted Reagor with high expectations for him coming into the season. They picked him in hopes of adding depth to their depleted WR core. He’s been nursing a shoulder injury but managed to get back healthy enough to play in game one. He only saw four targets and hauled in one massive reception for 55 yards. That’s not a pretty stat line but it shows the potential he has when he’s on the field. The Eagles are beat up on both sides of the ball right now and looked subpar against the Washington Football team. Reagor will work alongside Desean Jackson as the two deep threats on this team. Once he and Carson Wentz develop chemistry, he could turn into a solid WR1 for the Eagles.
Chris Herndon IV, New York Jets TE- 6.7 week 1 points
Herndon was 2nd on the team in targets vs the Buffalo Bills. He was able to reel in 6 receptions for 37 yards, but unfortunately had a fumble. He looked to be Sam Darnold’s check down security blanket throughout the game. The Buffalo defense played tough, holding the Jets to 17 points. With Denzel Mims now on the IR with a hamstring injury, the targets should continue to come for Herndon. If Herndon can avoid those costly fumbles, he has a chance to be a top 12 TE in the league.
