Undervalued Fantasy Football Players Of 2019: Part One
In my last article I took a look at players who are overvalued at their ADP. Now, I will identify 2019’s most undervalued fantasy football players. These are players who should be drafted relative to their cost. I will have a lot of these players on my teams. I go into every draft open to selecting any player at the right price. Value based drafting will help you accumulate a roster of players that will out-produce their ADP.
10. Jared Goff, Quarterback, Rams
I generally recommend waiting on quarterback. The difference between QB3 and QB12 in my scoring system (6 pts/TD, 1 per 25 yards passing) last year was only 70.7 points. If you break down that further from QB5 to QB12 it’s only 35 points. There’s a plethora of quarterbacks you can select in the QB12 to QB16 range that will provide plenty of start-able weeks. Jared Goff is currently being selected at QB12 with an overall ADP in the late ninth round/early 10th. Once 11 other QBs are off the board, he is my target. Create-A-Rank’s own @Fantasy_Finest has compiled some interesting data on how effective Goff and the rest of the offense was with a healthy Cooper Kupp.
Safe to say Cooper Kupp made a big difference to the Rams offense in 2018:
Goff with: 26.49 fantasy ppg
Without: 22.41Cooks with: 19.49 fantasy ppg
Without: 13.35 ppgWoods with: 17.74 fantasy ppg
Without: 15.47 ppgGurley with: 27.36 fantasy ppg
Without: 24.87 ppg— FineHour (@JFineHour) June 29, 2019
Goff’s stats slipped once Kupp went out with injury. It’s no secret that Tom Brady is most effective with Julian Edelman opening up the deep seam over the linebackers with precise underneath routes and Goff uses Kupp the same way allowing Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks to get deep. Goff is entering his fourth season and third as a full-time starter. Coach Sean McVay will start leaning on Goff even more as they limit Todd Gurley’s touches. While I don’t anticipate Goff throwing more than the 562 times he did last season, I do anticipate his interceptions to decrease and his completion percentage increase.

9. Corey Davis, Wide Receiver, Titans
Corey Davis is available in the early ninth round. That is much later than he was going in 2018 drafts. A year later, Davis offers tremendous value in the ninth round as a post-hype sleeper. Drafters are afraid new-comers Adam Humphries and A.J. Brown will limit his upside, but I am still on the Davis bandwagon. Davis can be drafted as your WR3 and offers WR2 and even WR1 upside if the offensive line and Marcus Mariota stay healthy. Both Humphries and Brown will help take the pressure of Davis as well as the return of Delanie Walker. Davis offers a 65 catch floor with the upside for more. I like the upside in the ninth round and believe he will provide a great return on investment.
Only five players were targeted more than 8 times inside the 10 yard line in 2018:

8. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Wide Receiver, Packers
Another receiver I love in the ninth and 10th round range is Marquez Valdes-Scantling. MVS received a lot of WR2 reps in the spring, working ahead of Geronimo Allison. We’ve seen in years past that Aaron Rodgers is able to support two or even three productive fantasy receivers. Someone has to step up and take pressure off of Davante Adams and Valdes-Scantling has the skill set to do it. Many are over-looking the 2018 fifth-rounder as his rookie season was filled with ups and downs. Create-A-Rank’s own Alex Johnson is equally as high on Valdes-Scantling.
As it becomes more evident that MVS will be GB WR2, his ADP (& cost in #dynasty) is going to go up significantly

Drafting Valdes-Scantling as your WR4 and pairing him with a safer WR3 allows you to swing for the fences here. With 38 receptions for 581 yards as a rookie, boasting a 15.3 YPC, MVS should be drafted much higher. Take advantage of the low-cost while you can.

7. Keke Coutee, Wide Receiver, Texans
A early trend this summer is that I absolutely love the WR value in the eighth to 10th round range. There is so much upside that I’d rather land my RBs early and load up on upside WRs later. Keke Coutee is going around the same range as Valdes-Scantling. Coutee was the main beneficiary last year when Will Fuller went down with a torn ACL. This season, Coutee may get off to a hot start as Fuller works his way back. With a lack of a consistent rushing attack, the Texans will look to throw underneath as an extension of the run game and a way to get the ball out of Watson’s hands quickly. Coutee’s 2018 average target distance of 5.5 yards indicates he will be the primary short-game target. Coutee has Cooper Kupp-like upside. At a 10th round ADP, give me Coutee’s WR3 upside.
6. Jared Cook, Tight End, Saints
I am a big proponent of drafting a TE early this season. I will even consider Travis Kelce in the first round depending on league settings. If you are unable to land a TE early, (Kelce, George Kittle, Zach Ertz) take a look at Jared Cook. Cook has been going TE8 around the seventh or eighth round. I anticipate you could get him even later as sexier names like David Njoku, Eric Ebron, and Hunter Henry are selected higher. Cook offers a three-to-four round discount with top-five upside. Cook is on his sixth team in eight seasons.
George Kittle had 4 top 3 TE performances in 2018 (same as Jared Cook), and 8 top 5 performances #FantasyFootball
Jared Cook can be selected around TE8-10 and offers top five upside.

Cook has a pretty safe floor of about 50 catches for 650 yards with upside in this offense of 70 receptions and 1,000 yards. I have Cook slotted for 60 receptions, 750 yards and six touchdowns which flirts with top-five TE numbers. If you miss out on a big TE early, wait and gobble up Cook.
