Key Changes & Need to Know
- New Offensive Coordinator – Dave Canales, 13 years at the Seattle Seahawks as Passing Game Coordinator, Quarterbacks and Wide Receivers coach
- The GOAT is gone – Brady has finally retired. Thank you for your service. This leaves a big hole at Quarterback
- Passing Volume – The Buccaneers were 1st in pass rate and 1st in plays per minute in 2022. Without Brady, this will come down to earth with a bump

Summary
Exit Tom Brady, enter Baker Mayfield. That’s about all you need to know about the 2023 outlook for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Mayfield won the summer quarterback competition over Kyle Trask, but that’s not saying much. However, he will have a chance to turn his career around with a finally healthy Bucs offensive line and the best wide receiver duo he’s ever enjoyed. Mike Evans may be on the downside of his career, but he’s never failed to reach 1,000 yards and he’s still a threat to make plays down the field and in the red zone. Chris Godwin enjoyed a healthy offseason after spending last year’s rehabbing. Yet, he still set career highs in a number of categories. In the backfield is possibly the NFL’s next stud all-purpose running back, Rachaad White.
With enough weapons around him, the Bucs season hangs on the shoulders of Mayfield. He looked good at the end of last season in his short stint with the Rams after flaming out in Carolina. Perhaps he can rejuvenate his career and be the Bucs starter for multiple seasons. The more likely outcome, however, is the Bucs will be put on Caleb Williams watch pretty quickly.
