RJ Harvey Scouting Report
RJ Harvey is undersized from a height perspective, but he’s got a compact frame and low center of gravity at 5-7, 207 lbs. Harvey is a between the tackles runner who grinds out yards and wears down defenses. He has good contact balance but otherwise is lacking in elite traits. He’s got requisite speed but is far from a burner, he doesn’t have a lot of burst, and he’s lacking in creativity as a runner.
Harvey does flash playmaking ability at times, but is ultimately still relatively new to the position after beginning his college career as a quarterback. Still, there’s natural ability there even if he’s lacking in special traits.
In the passing game, RJ Harvey has good hands and can make some plays out in space. He’s mostly a check-down option, but he has some experience running more extensive routes from the backfield. However, Harvey won’t be able to be a true three-down back in the NFL unless he makes considerable improvements in pass protection.
Harvey projects as a backup running back with developmental traits in the NFL. He will be best between the tackles where he can take advantage of his contact balance and lower body strength to grind out yards. He will fit best in an offense that doesn’t ask him to get to the edge often, focusing more on inside zone concepts.
Harvey will be a day three pick to a team looking to add some quality depth to its running back room. In dynasty, he’s a late-round dart throw in the hopes he falls into a short-term starting role in relief of an injured starter at some point.
