Mental health is an issue that spans socioeconomic, racial, and religious divides. Despite its prevalence, we often avoid discussing it and opt instead for the comfort of silence. New York Jets Offense

Play Caller: Mike LaFleur

It was a rough year, to say the least, for Mike LaFleur and the New York Jets offense. They finished at the bottom of the league in nearly every offensive category. They ranked 28th in points scored (310), 26th in total yards (5,208), 27th in rushing yards (1,667), and 24th in yards per play (5.0). It is worth noting that Robert Saleh was a first-year head coach, with a first-year offensive coordinator and a rookie quarterback. There were some growing pains, but this franchise appears to be on the upswing after another solid draft that added Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson to this offense. Hall will join 2021 draft pick Michael Carter and Tevin Coleman in the backfield, while Garrett Wilson joins Corey Davis and 2021 draft pick Elijah Moore in the wide receiver room. The Jets added C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin via free agency along with 2022 draft pick Jeremy Ruckert to the tight end room. It’s wheels up for the New York Jets, who appear to be moving in the right direction to turn this franchise around for years.

#2 Zach Wilson

Age: 23 HT: 6’2 WT: 214 College: BYU Draft: RD1 Pick 2

Contract: 3 years / $8,787,695 per year (22nd at position) – Expires 2025 – 5th year option available

Zach Wilson looked like an absolute bust last season but also showed flashes that made you believe he was worthy of a second overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. He finished the season with nine touchdown passes for a touchdown rate of just 2.3%. The Jets were 3-10 in games that Wilson started, but let’s put this into perspective. He was throwing to guys like Ryan Griffin, Jeff Smith, Keelan Cole, and Denzel Mims because Corey Davis missed eight games due to a groin injury. Davis was on pace for 111 targets, 64 receptions, 929 yards, and eight touchdowns before the injury. I believe Wilson takes a giant step in year two, and if he doesn’t, he could always join the Cougar Club. They’re always looking for young talent.

2022 Fantasy Outlook:

Passing: 562 Attempts, 63.7% Comp Rate, 3,857 Yards (6.9 YPA), 24 Touchdowns (4.3%)

Rushing: 49 Attempts, 6.0 YPC, 296 Yards, 3 Touchdowns

#20 Breece Hall

Age: 21 HT: 6’1 WT: 220 College: Iowa State Draft: RD2 Pick 36

Contract: 4 years / $2,253,692 per year (29th at position) – Expires 2026

Breece Hall was the clear RB1 in this draft class after posting 4,675 total yards and 56 touchdowns during his three years at Iowa State. He had 718 carries and 82 receptions for a total of 800 touches with an average of 5.8 yards per touch. He finished his junior season with a 43.9% dominator rating and a 10.7% target share for the Cyclones. Hall is just the 6th running back since 2003 to earn a 99-athleticism score from Next Gen Stats. The other five were Reggie Bush, Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley, Najee Harris, and Travis Etienne. He’s a three-down back with great vision and an ability to manipulate defenders at the second level. He can run through you, around you, or anywhere on the field.

2022 Fantasy Outlook:

Receiving: 12% Target Share, 67 Targets, 51 Receptions, 394 yards (7.7 YPR), 3 Touchdowns

Rushing: 56% Rush Share, 247 Attempts, 1,087 Yards (4.4 YPC), 6 Touchdowns

#32 Michael Carter

Age: 23 HT: 5’8 WT: 201 College: North Carolina Draft: RD4 Pick 107

Contract: 3 years / $1,071,840 per year (83rd at position) – Expires 2025

Michael Carter showed versatility in his rookie season with 147 carries for 639 yards and four touchdowns while also hauling 36 receptions for another 325 yards. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry and 5.3 yards per touch. He finished eighth in yards per reception (9.0), 11th in juke rate (30.1%), and 12th in yards created per touch (3.27), but with the addition of Hall, he will now be the RB2 in this offense. Early camp reports indicate that he’s looked great and will still be in the mix on game days, but how many touches that means weekly is unknown.

2022 Fantasy Outlook:

Receiving: 6% Target Share, 34 Targets, 25 Receptions, 187 Yards (7.5 YPR), 1 Touchdown

Rushing: 23% Rush Share, 102 Attempts, 436 Yards (4.3 YPC), 3 Touchdowns

WR Room

#8 Elijah Moore

Age: 22 HT: 5’10 WT: 178 College: Ole Miss Draft: RD2 Pick 34

Contract: 3 years / $2,235,106 per year (83rd at position) – Expires 2025

Some would say Elijah Moore exceeded expectations in 2021 as a second-round draft pick out of Ole Miss. He finished the season with 43 receptions for 538 yards and five touchdowns, which is impressive considering he missed six games due to injuries. If you average that out over 17 games, he is projected to finish with 119 targets, 66 receptions, 831 yards, and six touchdowns. I expect to see Moore earn 100-plus targets and should have more room to work with the additions of Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall.

2022 Fantasy Outlook:

Receiving: 22% Target Share, 124 Targets, 82 Receptions, 1,019 Yards (12.4 YPR), 7 Touchdowns

“if he can stay healthy, he provides a big-body target for Wilson in this offense. “

#84 Corey Davis

Age: 27 HT: 6’3 WT: 209 College: Western Michigan Draft: RD1 Pick

Contract: 2 years / $12,500,000 per year (28th at position) – Expires 2024

Corey Davis was selected fifth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft but has failed to provide a return on investment. He spent his first four years with the Tennessee Titans before joining the Jets last season. He’s never had more than 65 receptions or 1,000-yard seasons, but he’s a veteran presence on a team full of young guys. He’s earned the respect of the players and coaches in this organization. He missed eight games last season, but if he can stay healthy, he provides a big-body target for Wilson in this offense.

2022 Fantasy Outlook:

Receiving: 14% Target Share, 79 Targets, 47 Receptions, 656 Yards (14.0 YPR), 4 Touchdowns

#17 Garrett Wilson

Age: 22 HT: 6’0 WT: 192 College: Ohio State Draft: RD1 Pick 10

Contract: 4 years / $5,138,502 per year (45th at position) – Expires 2026 – 5th year option available

Garrett Wilson was the tenth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ohio State University. He finished his junior season with 70 receptions for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. He comes to the Jets with 4.38 speed and the ability to attack the football on contested catches. He’s quick in and out of cuts and plays physical at the top end of his routes. He is the final piece to a wide receiver room that can now attack you at all three levels and create mismatches. If he lives up to the pre-draft hype, he could take this offense to another level.

2022 Fantasy Outlook:

Receiving: 17% Target Share, 95 Targets, 63 Receptions, 769 Yards (12.2 YPR), 5 Touchdowns

TE Room

#87 C.J. Uzomah

Age: 29 HT: 6’5 WT: 271 College: Auburn Draft: RD5 Pick 157

Contract: 3 years / $8,000,000 per year (15th at position) – Expires 2025

C.J. Uzomah spent eight years with the Cincinnati Bengals before signing with the Jets as a free agent this offseason. He set career-highs in receptions (49), yards (493), and touchdowns (5) last season, catching passes from Joe Burrow in a high-powered offense. He’s the fifth option in this offense, and that may be a stretch as the Jets also added Tyler Conklin to the tight end room. He hit his ceiling last season, so expect some regression this season and beyond. Uzomah is a solid addition to the locker room and will provide veteran leadership, but don’t expect much beyond that.

2022 Fantasy Outlook:

Receiving: 9% Target Share, 51 Targets, 35 Receptions, 322 Yards (9.2 YPR), 2 Touchdowns
