Prospect Bio
Tyler Allgeier was a two-way player at Kaiser High School in Fontana, California. He rushed for over 5,000 yards and 56 touchdowns in his high school career while also playing outside linebacker. It wasn’t enough to get the attention of college scouts, though, as Allgeier was an unranked recruit with no offers from any Division 1A schools. He chose to walk-on at BYU in 2018 where he had just 10 touches as a true freshman before redshirting. His 2019 wasn’t much better with 17 carries for 119 yards, three receptions for 67 yards, and one touchdown. He spent a lot of his time playing on defense, though, racking up 26 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and one forced fumble. Allgeier was officially put on scholarship in 2020 and his game went to a whole new level. He ran for 1,130 yards and 13 touchdowns on 150 carries and added 14 receptions for 174 receiving yards. Allgeier continued to be the workhorse in the BYU backfield in 2021, rushing for 1,601 yards and an FBS-high (tied) 23 touchdowns on 276 attempts. He doubled his 2020 reception total for 199 yards.

Highlight Reel
Comparable Player: James Conner
NFL Draft Projection: Day 2
Bottom Line:
Once Tyler Allgeier settled into the RB1 job at BYU, there was no going back. The former two-way player combined for over 3,000 yards from scrimmage in his final two seasons, launching himself into a likely Day Two pick. His linebacker background is apparent when watching him run the football. He is violent and aggressive in his style, almost like he is the tackler. Allgeier projects as an RB1 in a two-headed backfield, reminiscent of how the Cardinals paired James Conner with Chase Edmonds in 2021. His one-cut running style and excellent vision at the line of scrimmage make him a great fit in a zone-heavy rushing scheme. He has solid receiving skills and pass-blocking ability to become a three-down threat.
Post Draft Analysis:
Coming into the draft, the Falcons were one of the prime running back landing spots. The first and second down, two-down workhorse role is wide open for the taking. They landed Tyler Allgeier in the fifth round to add to the mix. Allgeier is exactly the type of back who can come in and be the early-downs workhorse from day one in this offense. The only competition in his way is Mike Davis, Damien Williams, and Qadree Ollison.
