Patriots vs Jets DFS & Betting Preview

Injuries to Monitor

Oddly enough with all the injuries in the league there really isn’t anything to Monitor from a fantasy standpoint.

Breakdown

The Patriots came out of week 1 with what was likely the most impressive win of the week defeating the Bengals in Cincinnati. They followed it up by narrowly losing at home to Seattle.

Redraft trade calculator

Through two weeks Jacoby Brissett has failed to eclipse 150 yards passing. They’ve relied heavily on Rhamondre Stevenson who already has 46 rushing attempts. The Patriots have the 3rd least passing yards through two games and are tied for the 4th most rushing yards.

Defensively they’ve only allowed an average of 19.5 points in their first to games. They’ve allowed the 8th fewest passing yards and the 2nd fewest rushing yards.

The Jets opened the season with a tough loss in San Francisco. They allowed 32 points to the 49ers and only scored 19 points. One of the TDs was in absolute garbage time. Last week they rebounded winning 24-17 in Tennessee.

Aaron Rodgers highest passing total so far this season is 176 yards. The Jets have the 10th fewest passing yards with only 379 yards. Somehow they’re even worst on the ground with only 169 yards rushing. Only six teams have fewer rush yards.

As expected, the defense has played much better than the offense. They’ve been more susceptible on the ground than threw the air. They’ve allowed the 9th most rushing yards while allowing less than 200 yards passing in each of their first two games.

Draftkings Showdown

Showdown Captain mode is a DraftKings tournament where you have $50,000 to create a lineup using 6 players from a standalone single game. One of those players will be your captain. The captain costs 1.5 times their salary and will accumulate 1.5 times the points. As with every slate, GAME THEORY IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT. Even more so in Showdown, you want your lineup to tell a story of how the game will go. There are a lot of options based on how you see the game going but ALWAYS make sure there’s correlation between your players.

Strategy

A total this low combined with two pedestrian passing attacks point towards a snore fest from a fantasy scoring perspective. For that reason I’d expect both defenses to be pretty popular. One thing to keep in mind though is that if both teams go run heavy, the defenses will have limited opportunities to score via sacks and interceptions. They’ll have to rely more on points allowed which could certainly get them there in a lower scoring game but I don’t see a defense at captain necessarily working out. The kickers could play a huge role in a lower scoring affair as well.

Obviously with everyone focusing on a low scoring and low passing volume game you will be different by going the opposite way. If you wanted to stack the passing game of one of these teams it would pay off huge if they’re more successful than the running backs in this game.

Fantasy football

It’s pretty straight forward who the best plays on each team are so finding the cheaper ancillary piece will be the key to this one.

You can make a case for some other options at captain but Rhamondre, Breece and Garrett Wilson are far and away the most talented players in this game.

*My favorite Captain picks would obviously also make good Flex Options.

Captain

Rhamondre Stevenson $17,100

Rhamondre is one of only five RBs to have 200 or more rushing yards. He’s had at least 23 opportunities in each game this season. We saw a physical Jordan Mason dominate this Jets defense in Week 1 and you’d have to assume Rhamondre would have every opportunity to do the same.

Breece Hall 17,700

Breece can get it done on the ground or through the air. Hall has 12 catches so far which is 2nd most among RBs. He’s tied for the most targets among RBs. The pass catching adds to his floor and his big play upside make him a great option at captain.

Garrett Wilson $15,300

It hasn’t been the greatest start to the season but Wilson will have to be an integral part to the offense going forward. Rodgers and him should build more chemistry as the season progresses. His talent alone is worth a stab at captain.

Flex

Aaron Rodgers $10,000

Rodgers seems to be a bit uncomfortable in the early stages of the season. He’s getting rid of the ball much quicker than we’ve seen in the past. He’ll need to slow down and let his receivers get open which will come with more snaps. This offensive line has done a good job protecting him and while we may never see vintage Rodgers he can still provide enough upside on a one game slate.

Mike Williams $6,200

Williams saw his snaps increase to 65% in Week 2 compared to only 18% the prior week. He had a 72% route participation last week. Rodgers has no problem throwing the ball up and letting his receiver make a play and that’s where Williams thrives. His big play upside could pay off even on limited opportunities.

Hunter Henry $7,800

Had a 50% target share last week. Twelve targets, eight receptions and 109 of Brissett’s 149 yards passing. Henry won’t be the entire offense every week but has a rapport with Brissett that provides some value.

Braelon Allen $5,200

Allen ran a route of 36% of Rodgers dropbacks. He scored two TDs on only nine opportunities. Obviously that’s not sustainable but he does possess some big play upside and is a talented back.

Antonio Gibson $3,600

Gibson will absolutely get touches which is more than you can say for the bulk of the Patriots pass catchers. He had 11 carries last week and 7 in week one. He has some big play upside as he flashed last week on a 45 yard run.

If I’m taking a chance on Pats WRs it’s
Ja’Lynn Polk $4,000
KJ Osborn $3,200

Order of preference for Kickers and Defense

Zuerlein $5,000
Jets D $5,400
Pats D $4,400
Slye $4,800
