Bio
Mohamed Ibrahim hails from Baltimore, Maryland, where he attended Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. Ibrahim was not a highly touted recruit; Ibrahim was unranked by 247Sports as a three-star and was listed as the 62nd-ranked running back in the 2017 class. The Minnesota Gophers’ 2017 recruiting class ranked 60th in 2017, with Ibrahim as the 9th-best recruit in the class. This 2017 class also saw long-time Minnesota starting quarterback Tanner Morgan and highly touted prospect John Michael Schmitz at center.
Despite his low recruiting rank, Ibrahim made an impact right away. Ibrahim was top-50 in rush attempts as a freshman and top-30 in rushing yards as a true freshman in just 10 games. He especially shined in their bowl game against Georgia Tech, where Ibrahim accounted for 224 yards on 31 carries for two touchdowns in a 31-10 win.
While Ibrahim’s sophomore season didn’t ‘wow’ many, his junior year in the Covid-shortened Big Ten season did. In a shortened season, Ibrahim finished 6th in carries, 11th in rushing yards and tied for 5th in rushing touchdowns. He was named the Big Ten Running Back of the Year, third-team All American, and All-Big Ten first team selection.
Unfortunately for Ibrahim, he followed his fantastic junior season with a brutal season-ending Achilles injury in the opener against Ohio State. He was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Luckily, the injury occurred early in the season and he was able to make a full recovery for 2023. And somehow, after this injury that tends to derail running backs, he managed to have his best season yet. Ibrahim finished tied for 3rd in rush attempts, yards, and tied for the most rushing touchdowns at 20 with Pitt’s Israel Abanikanda.

Highlight Reel
Archetype: Committee back
Best Comparable Player: Matt Breida
Draft Projection: Late Day 3/Undrafted
Bottom Line:
Ibrahim leaves Minnesota as the most decorated rusher in school history. With that said, his skillset could limit his NFL production. He will be a 25-year old rookie that had little receiving work over five years. To make matters worse, Ibrahim fell well short of his measurements at the Shrine Bowl (listed at 5’10”; measured in at 5’7″). Ibrahim suffered an Achilles injury, but came back and had a monster senior season. Ibrahim was one of the most difficult to bring down, rushing for over 1,000 yards after contact. He finished his collegiate career with three 1,000 yard seasons. He should be valuable as a committee back for short bursts. Expect Day 3 draft capital for the former Golden Gopher Mohamed Ibrahim.
