Bio

Jalen Reagor was a four-star recruit coming out of Waxahachie High School in Texas where he dominated in track and field as well as on the gridiron. In 2017, Reagor won a gold medal in the long-jump at the UIL state track and field championships. He had previously set the state record with a 26-foot long-jump at a track meet earlier that year. His father, Montae Reagor, played nine seasons as an NFL defensive lineman and won Super Bowl XLI with the Colts in 2006.

Fantasy football

Jalen Reagor had a difficult time selecting among the 21 offers he received coming out of high school. He originally committed to Texas Tech, his father’s alma mater, before decommitting and choosing Oklahoma. He decommitted from there as well and ultimately landed at TCU. Reagor broke out as a true freshman at 18.7 years old, leading the team with 33 receptions for 576 yards and eight touchdowns and a 22-percent dominator rating. He also carried the ball eight times for 65 yards (8.1 YPC) and recorded a 30.5-yard average on four kickoff returns. Reagor was rewarded with Big 12 Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year honors.

The success continued in his sophomore season when he led the Horned Frogs with 72 receptions, 1,061 receiving yards (14.7 YPR), and nine touchdowns. Reagor led the Big 12 in percentage of his team’s receptions (30.1-percent). He also tallied 13 carries, 170 rushing yards (13.1 YPC), and two touchdowns on the ground and was impressive as both a kick and punt returner. Reagor was named team MVP and received second-team All-Big 12 honors.

Reagor’s numbers took a significant hit in 2019 largely due to horrid quarterback play. TCU’s passing offense averaged 203 yards per game and ranked 90th out of 130 eligible teams. In fact, there were three occasions during the season where no TCU wide receiver caught a pass until the final minutes of the second quarter. Only 30.7-percent of Reagor’s targets were charted as accurate, per PFF. Just three FBS receivers had a worse rate. Still, Reagor commanded a 20-percent share of the team’s receptions, 25-percent of the receiving yards, and 33-percent of the receiving touchdowns, and was a second-team all-conference selection.

While there were rumors Reagor would run in the sub-4.3s at the NFL Combine, he still had a good outing in Indy despite running a (still fast) 4.46. He was second among the receiver group with a 42-inch jump in the vertical and 138.0 inches in the broad, landing him in the 99th-percentile in Burst Score. His 7.31 three-cone time and 4.46 20-yard short shuttle were both near the bottom and translated to a seventh-percentile Agility Score.

NFL Draft Projection: Second Round

Bottom Line:

Jalen Reagor certainly has room to grow as a technician and in learning the nuances of the position, but his profile is indicative of a wide receiver that will be highly successful at the next level. He is an elite athlete with upper-percentile age-adjusted production. While he saw a drop-off in raw statistics in 2019, his market share numbers remained excellent. In fact, if he had played at a bigger school with better quarterback play, we may be discussing him as the top receiver in the class. Reagor is a dynamic playmaker that will thrive in an offense directed by a creative offensive mind. He will be an impact player on special teams as well. Reagor is a lock for a first round selection in dynasty rookie drafts as a top-three wideout in the class.
