Bio
Eric Gray was named the state of Tennessee’s “Mr. Football” three-straight years while playing at Lausanne Collegiate High School in Memphis. He was also named USA Today High School All-American and Gatorade Football Player of the Year after rushing for 3,151 yards and 45 touchdowns in his 2017 junior season. He then committed to Michigan as a four-star prospect before changing his mind and signing with the Tennessee Volunteers. During his freshman season, Gray ran for 539 yards on 101 attempts. The rushing production was about the same in his sophomore season, but Gray revealed his receiving prowess by catching 31 passes for 262 yards.
After the season, Gray transferred to Oklahoma where he played second-fiddle to Kennedy Brooks to a tune of just 412 yards on 78 carries. He was again a factor in the passing game, though, with 23 receptions for 229 yards. With Brooks departing for the NFL in 2022, the path was paved for Gray to take over the top spot in the Sooners’ backfield. He took his 212 carries for 1,372 yards and 11 touchdowns while hauling in 34 receptions for another 238 yards through the air. Gray was satisfied with his breakout season and opted to skip the Cheez-It Bowl to start preparations for the NFL draft process.

Bottom Line:
Eric Gray is an all-purpose running back who may not have elite speed or size, but he has enough tools to be productive at the NFL level. He is a decisive runner with elite lateral agility, great vision, and a variety of moves to make anyone miss in the open field. His soft hands and receiving skills will make him a true three-down threat. Gray will likely begin his career as a high-end No. 2 in a committee backfield with the upside to earn a spot atop the depth chart. In dynasty, he’s one of several quality runners to target in the middle of the second round in rookie drafts.
