Dynasty Gameplan Week 16: Buys, Sells, And Stash
Whether you’re in the thick of a championship run, in full-blown rebuild mode, or somewhere in between, you need a gameplan for your dynasty roster. I’m here to help you navigate the tricky world of dynasty team building no matter your situation. Every week through the end of the season, I will provide buys and sells for both contenders and rebuild teams plus my stash of the week.
Prospect to Pros: A Journey to 2022 Rookie Drafts
Buy Michael Gallup
Michael Gallup hasn’t been a reliable fantasy starter in 2021 due to injury and intense competition for touches. But, we know he has it in him. Going back to 2019 before CeeDee Lamb arrived, Gallup was a mid-range WR2 averaging over 15 fantasy points per game. In 14 games, he caught 66 of his 112 targets for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns. He was a dominant producer at Colorado State before entering the league in 2018 as a third-rounder. If you do the math, that makes this his fourth season which means he is due to become a free agent in the spring. There are a lot of wide receiver-needy teams out there so there should be a pretty good market for his services. Gallup is likely to find himself in a much better situation with a clearer path to high-volume over the next few seasons. He has the size and athleticism to be an alpha and will make a solid option as a team’s X.
Buy Michael Thomas
Michael Thomas has experienced essentially two lost seasons since his spectacular 2019. He played in just seven games in 2020, at far less than 100-percent, and was unable to play in 2021. A receiver who will be 29 at the start of next season and hasn’t been productive for three years sounds like a sell, doesn’t it? That’s exactly why I’m listing him as a buy. Wide receivers with Thomas’ skill set are often productive well into their 30s. The cost is so low at this point, the risk is minimal. Some recent trades in 1QB leagues using DLF’s trade finder:
Chase Edmonds for Michael Thomas
Kirk Cousins and Emmanuel Sanders for Michael Thomas
Matthew Stafford for Ryan Tannehill and Michael Thomas
Michael Gallup and Dan Arnold for Michael Thomas
2022 2nd-round pick for Michael Thomas
The point is, there are dynasty gamers selling Thomas at a very low cost. He’ll never return to the dominant WR1 he was in 2019, I get that. But, he still has multiple years of top-24 production in him.
Sell Aaron Jones
As excellent as Aaron Jones is, he’s a screaming sell in dynasty leagues. First of all, he’s a 27-year-old running back on his second contract. The alarm bells are already screeching. Then we factor in a young, size-athletic freak with draft capital in A.J. Dillon and the fact that his quarterback might be Jordan Love next year, and Jones should have been sold in dynasty yesterday. Jones is still producing at a high level but he’s already losing work to Dillon and the situation could change drastically over the next few months. We know how quickly running backs lose value in dynasty. Jones’ is already on the downward trend so see if you can get a deal done before it gets bad.
Stash of the Week: Josh Palmer
Josh Palmer was a surprise pick in the third round by the Chargers. He has been mostly quiet during his rookie season but his snaps and routes have been going up. We had the chance to see him in a more prominent role in Week 14 when Keenan Allen was out. He ran 29 routes and saw a team-high seven targets (23-percent share). He converted those into five receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. Mike Williams is in the final year of his contract. His play this season may create a bidding war for his services. If he winds up taking a deal outside of Los Angeles, Palmer would be in line for a greater opportunity in his second season.
