College Football Week 5 Best Bets
College Football Week 5 Best Bets
The Week 4 college football schedule was spectacular. Florida State survived a thriller in Death Valley. Oregon handed Deion Sanders his first loss at Colorado. Nick Saban and Alabama shut the door on Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss once again. Ohio State and Notre Dame went down to the wire.
And as loaded of a college football weekend as Week 4 was, Week 5 is just as great. Four ranked matchups highlight the schedule as we get in the heart of conference play.
For our Week 4 best bets, we found ourselves on the end of some bad beats. Indiana and Akron cleared the over 46.5 by scoring 29 points in the last four minutes and four overtimes. Buffalo recovered an onside kick and managed to score 14 points in the last five minutes to backdoor cover Louisiana. But we ride on for Week 5. Here are my favorite college football Week 5 best plays.

#8 USC (4-0) vs. Colorado (3-1)
Colorado +21.5; O/U 73.5
Under 73.5 (-110)
This is a 10 a.m. local kickoff in Boulder and a 9 a.m. kickoff local time for USC. When the total is set at 60 or higher this season, the under has hit in 25 of 34 as of Thursday night. In the three games with the total set at 70 or higher this season, the under has cashed in all three. Oregon went up big on Colorado last week and pulled their foot off the gas. This has been the story with USC this season, as they have went up big on opponents and pulled reigning Heisman winner Caleb Williams in their first three games. I don’t believe USC’s defense will slow down Shedeur Sanders and Colorado as well as Oregon, but this is still too many points. Under 73.5 is one of my favorite Week 5 college football plays for the week.
#13 LSU (3-1) vs. #20 Ole Miss (3-1)
Ole Miss +2.5; O/U 67.5
LSU -2.5 (-112)
While Ole Miss is a home underdog, this play purely goes against Lane Kiffin.
This is the list of results in Kiffin’s games against eventual 9-win teams. A horrendous 1-19 mark against Power Five teams that eventually win nine games. No wins at home with only one of seven coming within a field goal. His results in other games? 87-29. Kiffin’s squads will beat up on inferior opponents and welt against the big dogs. LSU’s blowout loss to Florida State in Week 1 appears to be more indicative of the powerhouse that is Florida State. I think LSU is on their way to nine-plus wins, and keeps the trend going against Lane Kiffin.
Also, a little bonus nugget from Chris “the Bear” Fallica
#14 Alabama (3-1) vs. Mississippi State (2-2)
Mississippi State +14.5; O/U 46
Alabama -14.5 (-110)
This SEC West showdown has been extremely one-sided lately. Alabama has won 15 straight, covering the last five matchups and seven of the last eight. In their last five, Alabama has outscored Mississippi State 182-22.
Prior to last week’s loss to South Carolina, Mississippi State relied heavily on the ground. Will Rogers doubled his passing production in last weeks loss to South Carolina compared to his first three starts this season. In his career against Alabama, on 152 attempts, Will Rogers has completed 58.6% of his attempts for zero touchdowns and five interceptions. Mississippi State will continue to struggle to move the ball against the Crimson Tide. Alabama rolls for their 16th consecutive win in Starkville.
