Bio
Chase Brown grew up in Ontario, Canada where his father played three seasons in the CFL. The family relocated to Florida for Brown’s junior and senior years of high school. Brown made an immediate impression at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School, setting the school’s career rushing record after taking 98 carries for 1,500 yards and 27 touchdowns during his senior season. He also helped the school win the state championship in the 4×100 relay and holds the school record in the 100m dash. After high school, Brown attended Western Michigan as a three-star recruit. He played in 13 games during his 2018 freshman campaign, running for 352 yards on 71 carries and hauling in 10 receptions for 75 yards.
Brown opted to transfer to Illinois and join his twin brother Sydney who played safety for the school. After touching the ball just three times in two games, Brown redshirted to retain the year of eligibility. He came back in 2020 and played in all eight games. He took his 104 carries for 540 yards and three touchdowns. He added another 64 yards on seven receptions.
Because of the COVID year, Brown was still classified as a sophomore in 2021. He played in 10 games and ran for 1,005 yards on 170 carries and caught 14 balls for 142 receiving yards. Brown had his best season as a fifth-year junior in 2022 when he finished second in the nation with 1,643 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns on 328 carries. It was his best season catching the football as well with 27 receptions for 240 yards and another three scores.
After the season, Brown was named second-team All-Big Ten and received the Jon Cornish Trophy as the top Canadian-born football player in the NCAA.

Best Comparable Player: Matt Breida
Draft Projection: Fourth Round
Bottom Line:
Chase Brown is a speed back with enough vision, patience, and willingness to embrace contact to be a productive runner at the next level. His excellent burst and acceleration make him a dangerous threat if he finds a crease in the defense. While he did receive over 300 carries in his final season at Illinois, Brown lacks the frame to take on that type of workload in the NFL. His size will also keep him on the sidelines during short yardage and goal-line opportunities considering he doesn’t quite have the power and strength to consistently succeed in those situations. He is not highly regarded as a pass-catcher, either, but he proved capable with a near 10% reception share in 2022. Brown projects as a committee back who will work best in heavy outside-zone running schemes. He will likely come off the board early on Day Three.
