BIO
With a reported 22 offers, Cam Akers chose Florida State instead of staying in his home state of Mississippi. Akers graded out as 247’s #2 RB in the 2017 class, the #3 player in the nation, and the 59th highest graded player in their database. A three-year starter for the Seminoles, Akers broke Dalvin Cook’s freshman rushing record in 2017 by eclipsing 1,024 yards on the ground. This incredible season had Akers jumping up draft boards, but Akers saw a decline in production in 2018, due in large part to his offensive line play.
Akers rebounded in 2019 and went over 1,100 yards rushing, despite having one of the worst offensive lines in the NCAA. He was able to finish his career as FSU’s sixth leading rusher, and only one of three backs to post multiple 1,000-yard seasons (the other two being Warrick Dunn and Dalvin Cook). Akers was tabbed All-ACC 2nd team in 2019.

Akers put on a show at the combine. Sure, his athletic testing numbers were good, but his fluidity in the “Duce Staley” drill wowed viewers. This footwork and agility were on full display at FSU, as he often made something out of nothing. Akers posted 20 bench repetitions, and a 4.42 short shuttle, but did not participate in the three-cone drill.

Just wrote my rookie profile for Akers on @YardsPer and man I enjoy me some Cam Akers.
Should be in the 1.01 talk https://t.co/0qVmj5y2VQ

NEGATIVES
-Often thought to be “doing too much” and dancing in backfield
-Ankle injury in 2018
HIGHLIGHT REEL
Best Comparable Player (PlayerProfiler): Marlon Mack
NFL Draft Projection: Day Two
BOTTOM LINE:
In most classes, a back like Akers would be in serious contention for the 1.01. He hits all of the desired traits of a bellcow back, and produced in a major way as a freshman. The 2020 class is loaded, and may see Akers as the fourth or fifth back off the board. This is an extreme value for teams looking to add elite talent to their rosters. I expect Akers to produce much more through the air than his player comparison, Marlon Mack. Mack feeds off of a great offensive line, something Akers did not have at FSU. If Akers ends up in a system that gives him the reigns, we may look back in a year or two and wonder why Cam Akers wasn’t the 1.01.
