Blake Corum 2024 Scouting Report

Blake Corum 2024 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Blake Corum | RB | Michigan | Senior | 5-8, 214 lbs

Background

Blake Corum has many intriguing aspects to his game that makes him one of the most touted running backs in this upcoming draft. He’s been the centerpiece of the number 1 seed Wolverines, emerging as a vital part of the offense. After setting career highs in rushing yards with an impressive 1,463 and touchdowns with 18 in 2022, Corum followed these numbers up with another 1,000 yard season and 24 touchdowns on the ground.

Scouting Report

When you watch Corum, the first thing that sticks out is his imposing athleticism. His burst is top tier and he can change directions in a blink of an eye. This, along with his exceptional stop and go speed allows him to blow past defenders before they even realize what’s happening. He also plays with a low pad level, although he needs to be more consistent at not turning them and keeping them squared.

However, he’s gravely undersized. Although a 215 pound frame isn’t bad, he’s only 5’8 and there’s only so much you can do at that size. This will likely prevent him from taking on any large workloads. Despite this, he plays much bigger than his size suggests. He doesn’t shy away from contact, has the ability to fall forward for extra yardage and get physical with defenders.

In the backfield, Corum displays traits that should translate to the next level. His ability to process the blocking and defense in an instant after initially taking the handoff is impressive. This is an uncommon trait to have coming out of college and Corum does this at a high level. He marries this with his excellent vision as he’s able to find and slip through holes. With his small size, he’s able to fit through small holes created from his blockers. On the flip side, he does get impatient at times and ends up rushing rather than waiting for his blocks to develop.

On 3rd down, Corum is pretty much a non factor. His route tree is limited and his receiving ability overall isn’t anything to like. With his size, he likely won’t be expected to do much blocking at the next level, although he did show a good understanding of where the extra blocker is needed.

Best Landing Spot: Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders rushing attack has been underwhelming as they rank 30th in yards per carry. Josh Jacobs is about to expire and has performed far below expectations this season. They can use someone with the explosiveness Corum possesses. With the offensive line being one of the worst in the league, having someone who can slip through small holes and have the agility to instantly burst to the second level of the defense would be extremely helpful. This addition would provide a huge boost to a subpar running back group.

Blake Corum Dynasty Outlook

The fact that Corum is severely undersized and doesn’t do anything on 3rd down raises high levels of concern for his fantasy value. Not to mention he’s also 23 playing a position that tends to have a short prime. However, he is still a very talented player that shows various traits that should translate to the pros. With all that being said, Corum should be drafted in the mid to late second round range.
