Week 5 Thursday Night Showdown on DraftKings

Bears vs Commanders DraftKings Showdown

Showdown Captain mode is a DraftKings tournament where you have $50,000 to create a lineup using 6 players from a standalone single game. One of those players will be your captain. The captain costs 1.5 times their salary and will accumulate 1.5 times the points. As with every slate, GAME THEORY IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT. Even more so in Showdown, you want your lineup to tell a story of how the game will go. There are a lot of options based on how you see the game going but ALWAYS make sure there’s correlation between your players.

INJURIES TO MONITOR

Jahan Dotson is nursing an ankle injury.

Curtis Samuel is dealing with a quad injury.

Both look like they’ll be able to play.

BREAKDOWN

The Chicago Bears head to Washington to face the Washington Commanders. Neither team is playing great football especially defensively which could make this game interesting.

The Bears are 0-4 after losing by a field goal to the Broncos last week. They’ve allowed an average of 34.25 points through four weeks. They’ve allowed the 2nd most yards per pass attempt and the 4th most passing yards this season.

Offensively it hasn’t been great. Even with Fields throwing for 335 yards last week, the Bears are still bottom ten in passing yards. They’re middle-of-the-road in rushing yards and have averaged 18.75 points per game.

Washington is 2-2 so far. They’ve allowed 4.5 yards per carry which is 6th highest in the league. They’ve also allowed the 6th most passing yards over the last three weeks.

On Offense the Commanders have been up and down. They scored a combined 66 points in two weeks and a combined 23 in the other two. They’ve averaged 240 passing yards and 106.5 rushing yards through four weeks.

I basically see this game going one of two ways. It’s either a high scoring shootout or the Commanders blow them out. As a result that’s how I’ll be playing this game.

Fantasy football

Fields obviously has the most upside hence the high salary and I’ll use him as captain. I think it could even make sense to use him at Captain in Commanders onslaught builds. You could even play the defense against him because he’s so sack/INT prone. After last week Kmet will likely be the preferred pair for Fields but I’ll lean towards Moore.

Brian Robinson is my favorite Captain option on the Washington side and I don’t mind pairing him with the defense AND Antonio Gibson. McLaurin is the clear top option in the pass game but Dotson and Samuel make senses considering how terrible this Bears defense is. For that reason I don’t mind Sam Howell mixed in at captain as well.

CAPTAIN/FLEX

Justin Fields $16,500/$11,000

It was a rough start to 2023 for Fields but he bounced back nicely last week throwing for 335 yards and four TDs. He also added another 25 yards on the ground. He’s been lacking a bit in the rushing department considering the upside we’ve seen from him but does still have the 4th most rushing attempts for QBs. Washington has given up the 3rd most rushing yards to opposing QBs this season.

Brian Robinson $13,800/$9,200

Robinson has averaged 16.5 touches per game to this point. He has the 4th most rushing yards after contact and has forced the 3rd most missed tackles. Chicago has allowed the 2nd most points and eight total TDs to opposing RBs this season.

Terry McLaurin $15,300/$10,200

McLaurin is coming off his best game of the season with eight receptions and 86 yards. He’s averaged 5.25 receptions per game and has a 20% target share. Chicago has given up 15.4 yards per reception which is tied for 3rd most in the league.

DJ Moore $15,000/$10,000

Moore has been productive despite the limitations of the offense. He’s averaging 16.8 DraftKings points per game. Moore is averaging a healthy 15.8 yards and has one of the higher ADOTs in the league at 15.3 yards. Washington is tied for the 3rd highest yards per reception allowed.

Sam Howell $14,100/$9,400

Howell hasn’t been incredible but is more than serviceable. With the weapons he has and considering how terrible this defense is I think he’s worth a shot. He also offers a bit of rushing averaging 20 yards on the ground as well.

THE REST

Cole Kmet $6,400

Kmet had a 28% target share last week seeing nine targets. He caught seven of them for 85 yards and two TDs. That was definitely his ceiling. He had previously averaged five targets in the first three weeks and 44 yards was his highest yardage total. He’s definitely involved enough to warrant a flex play but I’m not chasing last week in the captain spot.

Jahan Dotson $7,000

The talent that we saw last year hasn’t showed up so far this season. Dotson had a season high nine targets last week but only caught four of them. He did finally get in the end zone. His ability and role in this offense combined with the terrible Bears defense could result in his best game this season.

Khalil Herbert $8,600

Herbert played 78% of snaps last week and had 22 touches. He had by far his best game of the season topping 100 yards on the ground. He’s averaging just under five yards per carry. The Commanders have allowed the 6th most yards per carry.

Curtis Samuel $5,600

While not dominant, Samuel has been consistent this season. He has a solid role and there’s a price discount on him in this game. He also receives rushing attempts and already has a rushing TD this season.

WAS Def $5,400

Defenses are always in play on one game slates but we’ve seen them be a necessity in prime time games this season. Fields will take sacks and likely throw a pick and/or fumble.

Logan Thomas $5,200

Thomas doesn’t have much upside but is involved enough to warrant a play. If he gets a TD and a couple catches it would be more than enough to pay off this price and gets you different when targeting the Commanders receiving game.

Darnell Mooney $5,000

Mooney doesn’t see a ton of targets but does produce in a limited role. He’s averaging 14 yards per catch. With Washington giving up the 3rd most yards per reception, Mooney could get there on one catch.

Roschon Johnson$4,800

Only played 22% snaps last week. It looks as though Roschon will see much more work when the Bears are trailing. Being underdogs on the road it certainly makes sense to include Roschon in builds where the Commanders get up or blowout the Bears.

Antonio Gibson $3,200

Gibson’s workload is practically non existent compared to prior years. He is still an explosive player and is getting some work in the passing game. It won’t take much for him to pay off this salary.

Dyami Brown $2,800

Brown is buried on the depth chart and it would likely take an injury or a long bomb for him to be usable.

Equanimeous St Brown $1,800

St Brown will see some extra playing time with Claypool put. He won’t see a ton of work but could be a cheap option to jam some higher priced guys up top.

Velus Jones $1,000

John Bates $400

Robert Tonyan $600

Cole Turner $800

These guys see very limited opportunities and are basically just cheap dart throws hoping for a TD.
