Late Round Quarterbacks To Target In 2020

Waiting on quarterbacks is a legitimate strategy. Whilst the top two quarterbacks (Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes) are worth an early pick, after this pair of studs, there is little reason to take a QB early in one quarterback leagues.

Taking a quarterback after the eight-round allows you to fill out your roster, and maximize your potential. These are guys that were injured last season or had a down year, and as a result, the fantasy football community is fading them. Don’t make the same mistake.

Matthew Stafford

2020 ADP: QB13

Stafford is a gunslinger. Fearless. Confident. Talented. Detroit has struggled to surround him with talent but in the first eight games of the 2019 season, we saw a high-powered offense. Stafford was on pace for 5000-plus yards, nearly 40 touchdowns, and only ten interceptions. The Lions’ quarterback had the fourth-highest fantasy points per game average last season.

With a plethora of weapons like Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, TJ Hockenson, Danny Amendola, and now D’Andre Swift, Stafford has an opportunity to show what a full season with weapons looks like. Under Matt Patricia, Stafford has been given the green light to continue carrying the Lions’ offense. Volume is essential in fantasy football. Stafford is better than a borderline QB1, and is going as late as the tenth round in fantasy football drafts.

Jared Goff

Late round quarterbacks 20202020 ADP: QB18

Fantasy football

We are only one year removed from Jared Goff lighting up the NFL in Sean McVay’s offense, and finishing as the QB7 overall. Whilst defenses adjusted to the Rams’ offense, and Goff may have had a poor year, he still finished as QB13.

Goff had the lowest touchdown rate of his career since his rookie year. Over his second and third years, Goff had a touchdown rate of 5.8-percent. Hitting 5-percent in 2019 would have bumped him up to QB6. With an enviable number of weapons, Goff has an opportunity to reinstate himself as a consensus QB1 after hitting his floor of QB13.

After all, if Tyler Higbee, Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, Cam Akers, Van Jefferson, and Gerald Everett are all in for a big season, then so is the man feeding them the ball. Goff is one of the best late round quarterbacks to target in 2020.

Daniel Jones

2020 ADP: QB15

Fantasy football

The new face of the Giants’ franchise had an up and down year. Early on he was praised by the media, earning the nickname “Danny Dimes”. As the season progressed, the media turned on him, but that’s what you get playing in the Big Apple.

Over 12 starts as a Giant, Jones showed he belonged in the NFL and that he’s relevant for fantasy football players. In 16 games he would have been QB6 as a rookie, averaging 18.83 points per game. All of this whilst fumbling the ball over a dozen times, losing up to 20 fantasy points over the season. As an owner of Jones, this would be incredibly frustrating, but the young quarterback is working on ball security and with an improved offensive line and his best teammate back healthy, Jones is in line for a big season.

He has plenty of weapons to get involved in the passing game and sneakily averaged 21.5 rushing yards per game last season. Pushing the ball downfield more often to Golden Tate, Evan Engram, and Darius Slayton will only increase his value.

Carson Wentz

Late round quarterbacks 20202020 ADP: QB12

One of Jones’ rivals in the NFC East, Wentz, finished as the QB9 last season despite playing with one of the league’s worst receiving cores. He’s incredibly efficient, averaging an interception rate below 2-percent whilst being productive with the ball. He also has the greenlight to sling the ball under Doug Pederson, with 600-plus attempts in his two full seasons with Pederson.

Ertz and Goedert are huge, talented pass catchers whilst DeSean Jackson and Jalen Reagor bring speed to the offense. Miles Sanders is a projected RB1 next season, and Boston Scott is productive when he gets the ball. Despite this, people are fading Wentz in favor of older quarterbacks.

He’s healthy and has one of the best offensive lines in the league. In 2017 he was a front-runner for MVP and he makes Aaron Rodgers level throws that only a few in the league can do. Wentz also adds 200-plus yards and a couple of touchdowns on the ground with his mobility and it’s shocking that he’s being overlooked.
