BIO
Adam Trautman was a lightly recruited QB from a small town in Michigan and elected to attend Dayton instead of heading to a bigger program as a walk-on. During his redshirt freshman year at Dayton, Trautman was approached about a position switch to TE. He thrived in his new position, starting seven games during his redshirt freshman season and every game after. He posted solid, yet unspectacular numbers during his sophomore and junior seasons, then exploded as a senior to set a Dayton record for receptions in a single season, with 70. Trautman’s senior year stat line of 70 catches for 916 yards and 14 TDs earned him a spot on the FCS All-America First Team.

A disappointing 40-yard-dash time did not put a damper on Trautman’s combine. We would have loved to see somewhere in the mid 4.6’s but where Trautman shined was in the 3-cone and the short shuttle. Trautman posted a 6.78 3-cone and a 4.27 short shuttle. These agility numbers show in Trautman’s tape, where Trautman wins as a receiver and is projected to be a move TE in the NFL.

BOTTOM LINE
Trautman will not be asked to maul people at the point of attack, but he should be utilized as a move TE in the NFL, which should allow for a decent fantasy football floor. His agility numbers at the combine show up on tape and should transition to winning in the short to intermediate areas of the field in the NFL.
Trautman’s jump from FCS Dayton to the NFL is a major upgrade, but like his PlayerProfiler best comparable player, Dallas Goedert, Trautman can make the leap to the NFL. The fear is Trautman ends up like 2017 NFL Draft darling Adam Shaheen. Shaheen played at the NCAA Division II level, was drafted highly by the Chicago Bears but has yet to produce in the NFL. He may not produce immediately, as Trautman learns an NFL playbook and adjusts to the play speed of the NFL, but he is an interesting prospect, who could find a place in the top-20 of fantasy football TEs. He is my TE2 in this class.
