This weekly series looks at two consensus ranked players outside of the top-24 that I am the highest on and why. Each week, I will break down the case for both players, giving my view as to why they are strong flex spot additions. Here are our Week 2 sleeper candidates!

Week 2 RB

Tarik CohenConsensus ranking #31, my ranking #17

Cohen saw 10 targets come his way last week against Green Bay. I expect more of the same this week. He turned them into 8 receptions for 49 yards. So while the Packers defense emphasized containing him, the offense flowed through Cohen.

While he didn’t see a single carry, I don’t expect that to continue. He faces a Denver defense that was gashed by Josh Jacobs on Monday. Historically, Cohen gets off to hot starts in September. This is the highest yards per game month at 77 yards.

With his team on the road and the defense being able to stop a beatable Denver offense, I expect each of the Bears RBs to get plenty of work. Being the most dynamic back overall to this point, Cohen will be able to get big chunks of yards and is a strong flex option.

Week 2 WR

Alshon JefferyConsensus ranking #25, my ranking #15

Alshon continued his strong rapport with Carson Wentz. He saw six targets and turned them into five catches for 49 yards and a touchdown. Additionally, he had one “rush” for two yards and another score. It was more of a WR screen that happened to go backwards so it counts as a rushing TD.

The Falcons defense did not get much of a test this past week in Minnesota. Because Kirk Cousins attempted just 10 passes for 98 yards. That said, they did give up plays of over 20 yards to both of the Vikings dynamic receivers and looked beatable in their limited tests.

Jeffery is a big-bodied red zone threat and I expect him to get plenty of work. The Eagles picked up where they left off moving the ball up and down the field at will. As one of the top options on a high powered offense, he is a prime candidate for a Week 2 sleeper.
