College Football Week 12 Best Bets

College Football Week 12 Best Bets

With only two weeks left in the regular season, we still have five unbeaten and a handful of one-loss teams fighting for a college playoff berth. Washington will be tested on the road in Corvallis. Five other top-ten teams are on the road this weekend in what could be an upset filled College Football Week 12 schedule. Here are my favorite Week 12 college football plays.

Illinois (5-5) vs. #16 Iowa (8-2)

Iowa -3; O/U 31.5

Under 31.5 (-112)

What a gross line. But Iowa is used to these lines; this is the eighth-straight game with a total under 40-points. The UNDER is 6-1 in the last seven, and the last time an Iowa game combined for at least three touchdowns came against Purdue in early October. Last week’s game against Rutgers was the lowest total in a FBS game at 27.5 against Rutgers; Iowa won 22-0. And that was with Iowa scorching the scoreboard with 19 second half points. Vegas can’t get these Iowa totals low enough, and I believe this stays true this week. An ugly Week 12 college football matchup in Iowa City.

North Carolina State (7-3) vs. Virginia Tech (5-5)

Virginia Tech -3; O/U 43.5
Under 43.5 (-112)

We hit on this trend last week with North Carolina State beating Wake Forest on the road. In NC State’s six ACC contests this year, the UNDER is now 6-0 with the average total hitting at 32.3 PPG. With the quarterback turnover in Raleigh going from Brennan Armstrong to MJ Morris, back to Armstrong, the one thing consistent with this Wolfpack team is their defensive presence. NC State has the best defense in conference play, allowing just 14.5 PPG. We’ll ride this trend and take the UNDER in this Week 12 ACC matchup.

UNLV (8-2) vs. Air Force (8-2)

Air Force -3; O/U 47
UNLV +3 (-110)

UNLV is the best team ATS (9-1) in FBS this season. They are 4-0 ATS and 2-2 SU when they are an underdog, with the losses coming at Michigan and Fresno State. Now they go on the road to Air Force that has fallen off the tracks as of late. With a limited or injured Zac Larrier at quarterback, Air Force has lost back-to-back games after an 8-0 start. The Falcons lost 23-3 to Army as a 18.5-point favorite, and 27-13 as a 20-point favorite to Hawaii. We’re going to stick with the hot team ATS and take the Rebels of UNLV in this Week 12 college football matchup.

#7 Texas (9-1) vs. Iowa State (6-4)

Iowa State +7.5; O/U 47
Under 47 (-112)

Texas lost star running back Jonathan Brooks last week to a torn ACL. Brooks totaled 51.3% of the team’s rushing attempts (187) and was fifth on the Longhorns team in receptions and yards. Brooks accounted 30% (9/30) of the Longhorns’ touchdowns with Quinn Ewers on the field. Iowa State allows the fewest passing production in the Big 12 (204.3 YPG). The Cyclones have allowed just 10 passing touchdowns in their seven conference games, allowing just one passing score in each of their last five. Since the start of 2021, the UNDER is 7-3 when Iowa State plays a ranked opponent, and 4-0 when they are a home underdog. I think this falls under the total in the Week 12 college football matchup, with the Longhorns on upset watch.
