Chiefs vs Chargers Draftkings Showdown

Showdown Captain mode is a DraftKings tournament where you have $50,000 to create a lineup using 6 players from a standalone single game. One of those players will be your captain. The captain costs 1.5 times their salary and will accumulate 1.5 times the points. As with every slate, GAME THEORY IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT. Even more so in Showdown, you want your lineup to tell a story of how the game will go. There are a lot of options based on how you see the game going but ALWAYS make sure there’s correlation between your players.

Overview

We get a good one for Thursday Night in Week 2 with the Los Angeles Chargers heading to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs. They have combined to score no less than 54 points in each of they’re last three meetings. They scored 62 points the last time they faced in 2021. The Chargers won two of those three matchups.

The Chargers defeated the Raiders 24-19 in Week 1 with Justin Herbert throwing three TDs. Austin Ekeler had a pedestrian day averaging only 2.6 yards per carry. Maybe more concerning was the fact he only played 50% of snaps with Michel and Kelley both logging 25% of snaps. I won’t overreact to one week and Ekeler should see plenty of opportunities in this game.

The Chiefs destroyed the Cardinals 44-21. Patrick Mahomes threw for 360 yards and five TDs. He threw his TDs to four different players. Clyde Edwards Helaire got the run early in the game scoring twice while Isiah Pacheco carried the ball 12 times and scored a TD with the game out of reach. Although they both had better statistical games, Jerick McKinnon actually played the most snaps at RB. This team is going to be great but it’ll be difficult figuring out who will be the most productive each week outside of Mahomes and Kelce.

Clearly there are a lot of ways to play this game with the firepower on both sides. Similar to Kupp last week, Mahomes is the best play but could be detrimental to your remaining salary if used at captain. If using Mahomes, you could mix n match the WRs in a couple lineups. Kelce is his clear number one option and will likely be a popular captain pick. I’m willing to eat that chalk and in larger fields it could actually make sense to play him without Mahomes to differentiate. If Kelce is the top scorer and the rest of the Chiefs scoring is done through the running game that could pay off huge.

As for the Chargers, I will play plenty of Herbert but think I’ll pass on him at captain. I’d rather Ekeler or Williams. Either or even both could do the bulk of the scoring and be better/cheaper options. Williams could go overlooked after a his Week 1 performance but we know his boom bust tendencies. As for the other passing options I prefer Palmer who will go lower owned than Everett and Carter.

Captain/Flex

Patrick Mahomes $17,700/$11,800

We know Mahomes upside, he obviously showed it last week with 5 TDs. He averaged 335 yards and 3 TDs against the Chargers last season. I will play him at captain but only in 3 and single entry. I’ll only play him at flex in larger GPPs hoping someone can outscore him.

Travis Kelce $16,500/$11,000

Fantasy football

Kelce picked up where he left off last year. He had a 22% target share in 2021 and a 23% target share in Week 1. He averaged 148 yards and a TD against the Chargers last season.

Austin Ekeler $15,300/$10,200

Ekeler was a bit of a disappointment in Week 1. He only managed 72 yards from scrimmage on 18 touches. The amount of touches are basically his floor especially in this game environment with no Keenan Allen.

Mike Williams $13,500/$9,000

Williams is the definition of boom or bust, last season he had six games with three or less receptions but also had six games with at least 80 yards and a TD. In a one game slate I’m banking on his upside.

The Rest

Justin Herbert $11,200

A great start to the seasonthrowing 3 TDs. Herbert had seven games win three or more TDs last season. He threw 4 TDs against the Chiefs in their 1st meeting last season. He’s averaged 27.25 fantasy points per game versus the Chiefs in four regular season games.

Clyde Edwards Helaire $8,600

CEH was the RB 1 prior to the game getting out of control. The usage inside the 10 is the most promising part as he scored twice in the 1st half. He also averaged 6 yards per carry.

Juju Smith Schuster $8,000

Juju had the 1nd most targets on the team Week 1. He turned that into 6 receptions for 79 yards.

Marquez Valdez Scantling $6,400

MVS actually played the most snaps of any Chiefs WRs but only saw four targets. He was mainly a deep threat in Green Bay but only had an average depth of target of 6.2 yards.

Mecole Hardman $5,600

Mecole was targeted 6 times and had the 2nd most air yards for the Chiefs with 84. He only caught 3 balls but turned one into a TD. I love his run after the catch ability on a one game slate.

Josh Palmer $5,000

Palmer had 7 targets 5 receptions, 66 yards and a TD last time he played without Keenan Allen. I think he’ll go lower owned than Carter and Everett.

Gerald Everett $4,800
DeAndre Carter $4,600

I put thesetwo together becausethey had very similar stat lines last week with each scoring a TD. Carter had 64 yards, Everett had 54 yards. Carter did play 18 less snaps. I also think they have similar outcomes in this game.

Isiah Pacheco $4,400

Pacheco looked great as the Chiefs leading rusher in Week 1. He received the most carries among Chiefs. It’s hard to know if that was due to playing in garbage time but regardless he is talented and worth the price.

Jerick McKinnon $2,600

McKinnon actually ended up playing the most snaps among RBs. He had three receptions and 49 total yards from scrimmage. His pass catching upside is a nice floor at this low a price.

Sony Michel $3,000
Josh Kelley $1,600
Jody Fortson $600
Noah Gray $200

If you play these guys you’re basically hoping for TD. Kelley is likely the only one with a chance to accumulate any significant yardage albeit a small amount.
