Week 2 DFS Game Stacks
Stacking in DFS has become the new norm, almost to the point where it’s necessary if you want to win most tournaments. If you’re not familiar with the term, stacking simply means to pair multiple teammates together in a single lineup. This usually means a quarterback with a pass catcher or two, and a bringback (a RB/WR/TE from the opposing team). The logic behind it is that if your QB has a ceiling game, he likely drags along one or two pass catching teammates with him. Additionally, that probably means the game was a shootout and someone from the other side had a big performance.
So, who should you target this week? Before I dive in, let’s see how last week’s stacks performed.
- The Mahomes double was my highest-performing stack, and it helped me profit on the week. Mahomes and Kelce were the guys you needed, while JuJu and Conner didn’t hurt you if you played them.
- Herbert did fine throwing TDs to random players, but Williams and Palmer did next to nothing. Pretty disappointing from that end. Waller was fine and almost scored a TD but was tackled at the 1.
- The Murray double was just perfectly average. Nothing much to say there.
- Hurts and AJB killed it, but Hockenson was a let down. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Deandre Swift or D.J. Chark would have been ideal.
- Kirk and JJ got the job done, but Smith was a massive failure, playing less than half the snaps as perceived backup TE Johnny Mundt. Aaron Jones was also used far less than anticipated.
Now that we’ve reviewed last week, let’s look ahead to Week 2!
Stack 1: QB Matthew Stafford ($6.3k) + WR Cooper Kupp ($9.9k) + WR Allen Robinson ($5.5k) + TE Kyle Pitts ($5.4k)
Starting with this stack gives you instant leverage on the field, who is going to be playing the hell out of RB Darrell Henderson. People will likely steer away from Kupp at his high price. On top of that, Robinson and Pitts will be looked down on by everyone after their disappointing Week 1 outings. This stack projects to be very low owned, and allows you to eat chalk at other spots if you want to. It’s expensive, but there’s enough value to make it work.
Stack 2: QB Russell Wilson ($7.2k) + WR Courtland Sutton ($6.1k) + TE Albert Okwuegbunam ($3.7k) + WR Brandin Cooks ($6.0k)
This is another spot where you can really leverage the field. After Javonte Williams’ absurd 11 catch, 12 target game, he projects to be one of the higher owned RBs on the week. What better way to combat that than by playing Wilson double stacks? Sutton is in a nice bounce back spot and should be lower owned than Jerry Jeudy. Okwuegbunam had a solid performance in Seattle with 6 targets, and I’d bet that the backup TEs don’t vulture as many red zone targets from him this time. He was also tackled just short of the goal line, and easily could have scored a TD. Lastly, Cooks is a very reliable receiver who’s earned 10+ targets in 4 of his last 5 games, dating back to last season.
Stack 3: QB Kyler Murray ($7.5k) + WR Marquise Brown ($6.2k) + WR Greg Dortch ($3.5k) + TE Darren Waller ($5.6k)
I almost always want to attack the game with the highest total on the slate, and this one is no exception. The Cardinals offense didn’t look great last week, but I’m willing to chalk that up as an outlier. Kyler and Hollywood should be able to connect early and often against an average Raiders secondary. Dortch recorded 7 catches for 63 yards on 9 targets against the Chiefs, and played 59/65 snaps. He’s really only a play if Rondale Moore is out, who didn’t practice Thursday and doesn’t look optimistic to suit up. Waller is way too cheap at this price point, and shouldn’t be played too much with all the cheap TEs this week.
Stack 4: QB Derek Carr ($6.2k) + WR Davante Adams ($8.6k) + TE Darren Waller ($5.6k) + RB James Conner ($6.9k)
I love stacking both sides of this matchup. Carr and Adams do project to be two of the highest owned players at their positions this week, but adding Waller and Conner should be enough to make you different. This also lets you lean on Arizona’s run game if you’re not sold on Kyler. If you believe the Cardinals get up early and the Raiders have to pass to catch up, this stack works out perfectly for you.
Stack 5: QB Lamar Jackson ($7.4k) + WR Rashod Bateman ($5.5k) + TE Mark Andrews ($6.4k) + WR Tyreek Hill ($7.1k)
Lamar wasn’t going to be in here at first, but I’m starting to come around to him as the week goes on. This could be a sneaky shootout, with lots of stud weapons on each offense. Ownership as a whole in this game should stay low, and we know the ceiling these players all have. Bateman only had 2 catches last week, but if the Dolphins push the Ravens more, expect that number to increase. I want to play Andrews for the same reasons I want to play Waller. Hill may not be with Patrick Mahomes anymore, but he’s still capable of breaking the slate. He was getting peppered last week, and just missed the 100-yard bonus. The Dolphins were surprisingly a pass-happy team against New England, despite leading the majority of the contest. I think it’s safe to say the Ravens will score more than 7 points on Sunday, so why not take a shot at this game?
