Indianapolis Colts Offense
Play Caller: Frank Reich
Frank Reich is entering his fifth year as the head coach and play-caller for the Indianapolis Colts. When he first took the job prior to the 2018 season, he thought he was inheriting a true franchise quarterback in Andrew Luck. Unfortunately, it would be the last season Andrew Luck would suit up in the NFL, as he announced his retirement just before the start of the 2019 season. The Colts would call on Jacoby Brissett (2019), Philip Rivers (2020), and Carson Wentz (2021) to lead this franchise in each of the last three years. In year five, Reich will turn to 37-year-old Matt Ryan to lead his team, in what he hopes will be a deep playoff run.
There are no excuses for the Indianapolis Colts offense entering the 2022 season. They have one of the best offensive lines in football, the NFL’s leading rusher, and a rising star in Michael Pittman Jr. Matt Ryan simply needs to protect the football and make plays in the passing game. He doesn’t have to throw for 300 yards to give the Colts a chance to win. The Colts finished second in the NFL with 2,540 rushing yards, which set up the play-action game last season. Matt Ryan doesn’t have the mobility that Carson Wentz does, but he’s an outstanding leader that doesn’t panic when things breakdown. Matty Ice will lead the Colts into the AFC Playoffs in 2022.

#2 Matt Ryan
Age: 37 HT: 6’4 WT: 220 College: Boston College Draft: RD1 Pick 3
Contract: 2 years / $30,000,000 per year (13th at position) – Expires 2024
Matt Ryan has only missed three games in his 14 years in the NFL. He has thrown for 59,735 yards and 367 touchdowns with a career 65.5% completion rate. He’s been selected to four Pro Bowls and was a First-Team All-Pro in 2016 when he completed 69.9% of his passes for 4,944 yards and 38 touchdowns with just seven interceptions. He led the NFL in completed passes in 2019 and 2020 so there is still plenty left in the tank. He’s a savvy veteran with an excellent football IQ that will take command of the huddle and raise the expectations of the players around him. Could this be the year that Matty Ice wins a Super Bowl?
2022 Fantasy Outlook:
Passing: 550 Attempts, 66.0% Comp Rate, 4,092 Yards (7.4 YPA), 27 Touchdowns (4.9%)

#28 Jonathan Taylor
Age: 23 HT: 5’10 WT: 226 College: Wisconsin Draft: RD2 Pick 41
Contract: 2 years / $1,957,289 per year (36th at position) – Expires 2024
You can use every superlative when talking about Jonathan Taylor as the premiere running back in the NFL. In just his second season in the NFL, Taylor led the league in carries (332), rushing yards (1,811), rushing touchdowns (18), longest run (83 yards), yards per game (106.5), yards from scrimmage (2,171), and total touchdowns (20). We can talk about his advanced metrics as well, but you get the idea. He’s one of the most dominant runners in the NFL with a rare combination of size, speed, and pass-catching ability. Oh, and he’s only 23 years old. This offense goes as Jonathan Taylor goes.
2022 Fantasy Outlook:
Receiving: 10% Target Share, 55 Targets, 42 Receptions, 363 yards (8.6 YPR), 2 Touchdowns
Rushing: 67% Rush Share, 327 Attempts, 1,633 Yards (5.0 YPC), 16 Touchdowns
#21 Nyheim Hines
Age: 25 HT: 5’9 WT: 196 College: NC State Draft: RD4 Pick 104
Contract: 3 years / $6,200,000 per year (12th at position) – Expires 2025
Nyheim Hines as become one of the best pass-catching backs in the NFL with 210 receptions over his four-year career. He had a down year in 2021, but he now gets a quarterback that targeted the running back position almost nine times a game last season. The only issue for Hines is that Taylor has become a pretty good option in the passing game too, so it will be interesting to see how the Colts use Hines this season from a usage standpoint. If he’s on the field enough, he can give you 60+ receptions out of the backfield.
2022 Fantasy Outlook:
Receiving: 12% Target Share, 66 Targets, 50 Receptions, 366 yards (7.3 YPR), 2 Touchdowns
Rushing: 15% Rush Share, 73 Attempts, 322 Yards (4.4 YPC), 2 Touchdowns
WR Room
#11 Michael Pittman Jr.
Age: 24 HT: 6’4 WT: 223 College: USC Draft: RD2 Pick 34
Contract: 2 years / $2,153,211 per year (87th at position) – Expires 2024
Michael Pittman Jr. spent the last two seasons catching balls from Philip Rivers and Carson Wentz. That should tell you all you need to know about his potential in 2022 with Matt Ryan, who fed guys like Calvin Ridley and Julio Jones in Atlanta. Pittman finished last season with 129 targets, 88 receptions, 1082 yards, and six touchdowns in an offense that ranked 27th in wide receiver targets. That number will drastically improve in 2022 and Michael Pittman will be the major beneficiary of those added targets. It would not surprise me at all to see Pittman finish as a WR1 in 2022.
2022 Fantasy Outlook:
Receiving: 26% Target Share, 143 Targets, 96 Receptions, 1,187 Yards (12.4 YPR), 8 Touchdowns
“Alec Pierce has the size and speed to be dangerous at the NFL level if he can become a more polished route runner”
#14 Alec Pierce
Age: 22 HT: 6’3 WT: 211 College: Cincinnati Draft: RD2 Pick 53
Contract: 4 years / $1,650,336 per year (103rd at position) – Expires 2026
Alec Pierce has the size and speed to be dangerous at the NFL level if he can become a more polished route runner. He’s above average at the catch point and displays the ability to create mismatches in the red zone. But on the flip side, he tends to struggle against man press because he lacks a complete toolbox of release moves. He possesses 4.41 speed, but he will more than likely be the possession receiver in this offense with the emergence of Michael Pittman Jr. He’ll get an opportunity to prove himself in 2022 on a team that lacks real wide receiver depth.
2022 Fantasy Outlook:
Receiving: 12% Target Share, 66 Targets, 40 Receptions, 554 Yards (13.9 YPR), 4 Touchdowns
#1 Parris Campbell
Age: 25 HT: 6’0 WT: 208 College: Ohio State Draft: RD2 Pick 59
Contract: 1 year / $1,193,984 per year (126th at position) – Expires 2023
Parris Campbell can be summed up in one word. Availability. He’s been in the NFL for three years and missed 34 games. That is more than two full seasons worth of games missed. His talent is obvious when he’s on the field. He ran a 4.31 at the NFL Combine and scored in the 98th and 97th percentile on his speed and burst scores, respectively. As a star receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes, he caught 90 passes for 1,063 yards and 12 touchdowns in his senior season. If he can simply find a way to stay healthy, he as an opportunity to turn his career around.
2022 Fantasy Outlook:
Receiving: 14% Target Share, 77 Targets, 49 Receptions, 635 Yards (13.0 YPR), 4 Touchdowns
TE Room
#81 Mo Alie-Cox
Age: 28 HT: 6’5 WT: 267 College: Virginia Commonwealth Draft: UDFA
Contract: 3 years / $5,850,000 per year (22nd at position) – Expires 2025
Mo Alie-Cox will get every opportunity to be the TE1 in this offense. He’s a big dude with a basketball background that should earn some targets in the red zone. He’s by no means a game-breaker, but he can be serviceable as a pass-catcher in this offense. He had a career-high 45 targets last season, but only had 24 catches (53% catch rate) for 316 yards and four touchdowns. He’s not a sexy option, but he can provide some weekly splash plays.
2022 Fantasy Outlook:
Receiving: 9% Target Share, 49 Targets, 32 Receptions, 421 Yards (13.2 YPR), 3 Touchdowns
