Prospect Bio

Tyler Badie was a three-star recruit after posting 1,186 yards and 18 touchdowns on 193 carries during his senior season at Briarcrest Christian High School in Memphis, Tennessee. After originally committing to Memphis, Badie joined the Missouri Tigers in 2018. He had a role from day one, rushing for 437 yards and two touchdowns on 89 carries while hauling in 12 passes for an additional 130 yards. It was enough to earn an SEC All-Freshman team selection. Badie led the team with 928 all-purpose yards in 12 games as a sophomore. He carried 108 times for 457 yards and three touchdowns. His big impact came in the passing game though, with 32 receptions for 356 yards and another five scores. It was more of the same in 2020. Badie rushed for 242 yards and four touchdowns on 48 attempts but had his most success as a pass-catcher. He caught 28 passes for 333 yards and two scores.

With starter Larry Rountree heading to the NFL in 2021, Badie found himself atop the Tigers’ depth chart for the first time. Badie took full advantage, ranking third in the FBS with 1,612 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 268 attempts. He again made a major impact in the passing game with a team-high 54 receptions for 330 yards and four touchdowns. He earned first-team All-SEC honors and was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Comparable Player: Kenny Gainwell

NFL Draft Projection: Late Day 3

Yards Per-Formance Grade: 69.5

Bottom Line:

Running backs like Tyler Badie, who present a dynamic weapon in the passing game, have become increasingly valuable in the pass-happy NFL. With his receiving profile, Badie will be a priority pick on Day 3 for a team that is looking to add that element to its running back room. He projects as a third-down back who can run routes lined up out wide, in the slot, and from the backfield. With a heavy workload as a senior, he proved he can handle 10-15 carries a game when called upon, as well.

Post Draft Analysis:

Tyler Badie could not have landed in a worse spot. It’s not even because he’s buried on the depth chart (he is). Badie is a pass-catching specialist out of the backfield. The Ravens, however, are consistently at the bottom of the league in running back targets. When you have a quarterback who will take off and runs when he gets into trouble rather than dump it off to his running back, it’s hard to think a guy like Badie is ever going to get the opportunities he needs to be fantasy relevant.
