3 Early-Season Dynasty Sells

The NFL season is finally upon us. And while the focus for many fantasy gamers and analysts is on seasonal leagues and DFS, it’s an important time for dynasty managers as well. It’s a prime window to sell some players who are overvalued and overhyped heading into the season. Here are some of my guys to consider as dynasty sells.

Aaron Jones GB RB (25)

Fantasy football

Aaron Jones had one of the most productive fantasy seasons out of anyone in the NFL in 2019. He finished as the RB2 on the back of 19 total touchdowns. Jones has some added competition in 2020. The Packers added bruising tailback out of Boston College, AJ Dillon, in the second round of the NFL Draft. Dillon will most likely cut into Jones’ goal-line work, as well as spell Jones between the 20’s. Jones’ TD success in 2019 is one of the most unsustainable stat lines of the past season. A changing of the guard could be coming to this next offseason with jones’ contract expiring after the 2020 league year. There is a real possibility that Jones holds a fraction of his current value, heading into the 2021 season.

The uncertainty of his contract situation, potential landing spot, and current competition has me looking to move on from Jones in dynasty. His current ADP on dynastyleaguefootball.com is RB16, making him a high-end RB2 in dynasty formats. Jones should have a solid 2020, but your window to trade him is closing. If Jones gets off to a hot start in 2020, do what you can to maximize his value before it deteriorates.

Amari Cooper DAL WR (26)

Amari Cooper is one of the most explosive and talented WRs in the entire league. Unfortunately for fantasy players, Cooper tends to disappear at times. 2019 was especially frustrating for fantasy players in regards to Cooper’s inconsistencies. He dominated at home and struggled mightily on the road. The addition of college sensation, CeeDee Lamb, and the emergence of Michael Gallup has me concerned about Cooper’s long-term value in Dallas. Yes, Cooper was signed to a massive contract. Yes, Dallas is one of the leagues best passing offenses. Even with these factors, I’m cutting bait with Cooper as soon as possible. I believe he is at his absolute value peak for dynasty. He is coming off two top-20 finishes the past two years. With the number of weapons in Dallas, I don’t see that trend continuing.

Cooper currently has a dynastyleaguefootball.com ADP of WR10, going in the 2nd or 3rd round of dynasty startups. Cooper is a supremely talented wideout in a very lucrative passing offense. Use these factors to trade Cooper for a more sustainable and predictable asset in 2020.

Raheem Mostert SF RB (28)

Raheem Mostert is coming off of one of the most prolific post-seasons ever for an RB where he crushed the Packers with 196 yards and four TDs. Mostert is listed as the lead back on almost every 49er depth chart you will see. Unfortunately for fantasy purposes, this means very little in a Kyle Shanahan run offense. As great of a schemer Coach Shanahan is, he very rarely features a running back consistently. The 49ers have a plethora of serviceable backs in their locker-room. Tevin Coleman and Jerrick McKinnon have shown flashes at the NFL level and undrafted rookie Jamycal Hasty is a personal favorite of mine.

Mostert is an undrafted player himself and lacks any superstar traits. He is a very solid player but he is approaching the dreaded age cliff that we see many RB’s struggles with. Mostert is currently the RB30 according to dynastyleaguefootball.com’s dynasty ADP. I believe we have seen the best of Raheem Mostert and 2020 could be a rough year for fantasy players who roster him. Use his post-season success and the title of “49ers starting RB” to your advantage in trade talks. Mostert may not have a role in this offense come 2021.
