2021 Dynasty Rookie Mock Draft 2.0
As we draw closer to the NFL draft the buzz is growing, pro days are in full swing, the lack of combine on everyones mind. This year is like none other, taking in as much rookie content as you can is a huge advantage as a dynasty manager. Mock drafts are the perfect way to get an idea of where some players you like may fall depending on landing spot.
Rookie Mock Draft 1.0
Using Chad Ruther(@chad_ruther) from NFL.com’s three round NFL mock draft, I have created a one quarterback dynasty 12 team PPR one round 2021 rookie mock draft. Not all the players were selected in the NFL mock so there will be some left out of this mock as well. Some of these selections may surprise you, lets dive in!
Round 1
1.1 – Javonte Williams /Runningback/ Arizona (selected 49th overall)
Arizona is a great landing spot for Williams as he would provide an edge to their air raid offense. He would be the perfect mix of Drake and Edmonds. At only 21 years of age, Williams would be a corner stone piece to any offense. With his very good pass catching back, Kingsbury will be able to use him in the passing game. Williams should take over the lead role as a three down back in what could become a very potent offense.
1.2- Najee Harris / Runningback/ New York Jets (Selected 23rd overall)
The Jets brought in Salah as their new head coach, with this he brought an offensive coordinator from the Shanahan tree. We all know what the 49ers have done with the run game. Adding harris to this style of run heavy offense will only mean good things for fantasy owners. Harris would lead the backfield for sure, he could have Dalvin Cook type usage if they decide to lean on him. The upside for this three down back, with good power, vision, and receiving ability is huge.
1.3- Travis Etienne/ Runningback/ Atlanta(selected 35th overall)
Atlanta with Arthur Smith at the helm is regard as one of the best landing spots for a runningback this year. Etienne’s pass catching ability would be a huge advantage in PPR leagues. He may not have a huge role like Harris or Williams, as the team still has Julio Jones and Clavin Ridley. This will be the biggest concern surrounding Atlanta, what is the usage going to look like? If we get a Henry type work load the sky is the limit for Etienne, but this is unknown to us. For this reason is why he would be my third runningback off the board.
1.4- Kyle Pitts/ Tightend/ Cincinnati(selected 5th overall)
One of the most prolific pass catching tightends to come from the college ranks this decade. His addition to an offense that already has playmakers like Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, and Joe Mixon, is a scary thought. Pitts 6-6″ frame could become a great safety outlet for Burrow in what should be many negative game scripts in 2021.
1.5- Ja’Marr Chase/ Wide Receiver/ New York Jets(selected 8th overall)
The Jets have added a weapon to the offense already this offseason with the addition of Corey Davis. However the addition of a talent like Chase could never hurt, this would also allow them to move on from Crowder if they wanted to get younger in the slot. His physical style of play would match up with the new offense that Salah will be bringing in. He will be able to become Darnolds new safety blanket, however he is much more explosive then Crowder. The YAC abilites will be huge!
1.6- Rashod Bateman/ Wide Receiver/ Detroit(selected 41st overall)
The Lions are in clear need of an alpha style wide receiver with the departure of Golladay and Jones via free agency. Bateman gives them that player, his large frame and good route running will be a problem at the NFL level. He will come in with a clear shot to tae over the lead role. With a new offensive scheme based off play action Goff should be able to find Bateman open alot.
1.7- Devonta Smith/ Wide Receiver/ New York Giants(selected 11th overall)
Adding Golladay in Free agency is a huge add for a team desperately looking to replace Beckham. However why not add the Heisman trophy winning wide receiver while they are at it. Smith would be able to play second fiddle to Golladay and learn the game slowly. Not being the main option would benefit smith while he adjusts to the NFL sized corners. Smith would have a window for instant production as well, his route running and catch radius will likely make him one of Jones favorite targets.
1.8- Trevor Lawerence/ Quarterback/ Jacksonville(selected 1st overall)
Lawerence is still the best Quarterback in the draft. He has all the tools to succeed at the next level, add that in to the Urban Meyer spread style offense along with all the weapons he will have in Chark, Shenualt, and Robinson. He has no greater chance for success than anyone else in this draft class.
1.9-Jaylen Waddle/ Wide Receiver/ Arizona(selected 16th overall)
Waddle would be an instant upgrade from Christian Kirk, he would take over the slot roll. With the combination of Green and Hopkins on the outside, then Kirk and Waddle on the inside. Kingsburry would have a field day scheming up plays. Waddles explosiveness and YAC abilities would play perfectly into helping Murray in the short to intermediate part of the field.
1.10- Terrace Marshall/ Wide Receiver/ Philadelphia(selected 37th overall)
The Reagor experiment did not go so well last season, so the need for an alpha wide receiver is still present. Grabbing Marshall is a great addition for both sides. Marshall will have a clear shot at a starting role, which with his talent and size he should be able to take advantage of. Hurts will enjoy having this sure handed receiver to toss the ball up to.
1.11- Amon Ra St. Brown/ Wide Receiver/ Kansas City(selected 94th overall)
You know what they say about the younger sibling, and they are right in this case. Amon is a much better prospect than Equanimeous, he is a better route runner and has a great ability to track the ball in the air. Landing in Kansas City and being tied to Mahomes and Reid for the foreseeable future is music to my ears. He will be able to give the Chiefs a reliable second target on the outside. I want any receiver tied to Mahomes!
1.12- Rondale Moore/Wide Receiver/ New England(selected 46th overall)
The mighty mouse of the draft class could become New Englands new Julian Edelman. He is a versatile player who has game breaking speed along with a physical edge. He can be used in the run game and the passing game and be equally as effective. Although injuries are a concern in his young college career, his high upside is too much to ignore in this landing spot.
