The One Player You Need to Acquire in Dynasty
What if I told you that you could acquire a clone of Lions’ running back D’Andre Swift in dynasty leagues for a fraction of the cost? That’s right. You can trade for a 22-year-old, ultra-talented, future RB1 and not decimate your current roster to do so. What’s the catch? There’s only one–you won’t be able to set him into your starting lineup until the start of the 2022 season.
So who is the mystery player? Hint: he was the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 2021 first-round pick. No–not Trevor Lawrence. It’s Travis Etienne!
Etienne-Swift Comparison
Coming in at 5-foot-10, 215-pounds, and running a 4.50 forty–Etienne’s pro comp is D’Andre Swift. Just like Swift–Etienne is lightning in a bottle and a point-per-reception (PPR) cheat code. Swift is currently the RB7 in PPR fantasy leagues despite sharing a backfield with the pesky Jamaal Williams.
Sounds a lot like what Etienne could be up against when he returns from injury in 2022. Yes, the Jaguars have an early-down stud RB in James Robinson. Yes, the Jags have a questionable coaching staff–at best. But Swift just overcame those exact same circumstances to become the dynasty RB2 in our Yards Per Fantasy rankings.
Etienne has the potential to meet, or better yet surpass, the ceiling of Swift. He has a long-term answer at quarterback by his side who just so happened to be his college teammate. He also has better college production and better draft capital than the Lions’ young star.
The D’Andre Swift role that we are seeing was actually made popular by Saints’ running back Alvin Kamara. For years Kamara had Mark Ingram and Latavius Murray take the early-down role while he swooped in for the valuable touches–valuable for fantasy football anyway.
Swift has just re-invented the role, Etienne is the next man to take the torch and…run with it.

Possible Trade-Scenarios
I didn’t want to wrap up this article without giving you a few offers that I would suggest making:

This is going to depend upon what your league mate who rosters Etienne values him at, obviously. But these are a few examples of what I would be willing to start discussions at.
It’s important not to overpay for a player that is currently injured but I have written previously that I believe Etienne possesses overall RB1 upside. That could come with a hefty price tag if your league mate values him similarly.
