Top 5 Week 2 Takeaways
Another week down and all I have to say is God Bless Football! It was a riveting week, full of many surprises and disappointments. Here are my 5 takeaways from Week 2!
- Blessings from the Sun God
Amon-Ra St. Brown provides and we are all just #TooBlessedToBeStressed getting to watch him play. After a strong week 1 he had an even better week 2! 9 catches (12 targets) for 116 yds, 2 tuddies, and threw in 2 rushes for 68 yards. So much for that competition for targets… some have been saying all offseason any rookie putting up Kupp-like production means a lot. He’s tied the record with 8 games of at least 8 catches in a row. Dude might keep Goff employed at this point.
- Bears Offense
As happy as I was with the Sun God takeaway this one hurts. Can we get an APB for Mooney and Kmet? Fields has 28 passing attempts… through TWO STARTS! Flacco has nearly 4 times as many! The rushing attack has looked pretty good, but this is flat out unacceptable in 2022. The offseason outlook was bleak and somehow they’re still underachieving. I really thought Mooney would be a legit WR2 or WR3 option after his 80 catch, 1k season last year. He has 2 catches for 4 yards. Kmet can’t even catch a damn ball, back to back bagels like he’s bringing breakfast to his girl’s place. I figured volume would get him close to a low-end TE1 status. Fields I assumed would get buoyed from his rushing to be around top 15-ish, only 48 rush yards so far. This is bad and a game versus Houston should be what the doctor ordered. Maybe I’m just hoping, ask Matt Ryan.
- Colts Offense
Talk about a transition. This Matt Ryan-led colts offense, woof! At least everyone was expecting the Bears offense to be awful. I thought Matt Ryan was an upgrade from Carson Wentz? Who, by the way, has been a top 12 QB both weeks. How do you get worked by the Texans most the game until garbage time, and follow that up with goose egg versus the Jaguars?? They really went a whole game giving Jonathan Taylor 9 carries, and let washed and folded Matty Ice throw it 30 times? I was just dogging Fields, but Ryan doesn’t even have 70% of the points Fields has. He finished worse each week too. They might be the worst team in the far and away worst division. Now they get Kansas City coming off extra rest week 3, T’s and P’s.
- Dolphins Offense
The Miami Dolphins have an exciting offense. A sentence I’ve never been able to say in my time watching football. Gun to my head, exciting isn’t even the most accurate term… it’s more like inevitable, or unrelenting. What Mike McDaniel is scheming up with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle make it so the defense can’t be right. They either have to affect Tua or hope he makes the wrong decision. The first dragon to Tyreek was an example of this. So Tyreek gets behind the defense because Kyle Hamilton didn’t get enough depth, so it’s said rookies fault, right? Well if you watch Waddle on the play, he’s running a crosser that keeps Hamilton home and forces single coverage on Tyreek. So if Hamilton drops back to give help on Tyreek, it’s still a massive chunk play to Waddle, who’s also incredibly fast and dangerous after the catch. Those two are the first teammates ever to catch 10+ passes, gain 150+ yards, and score 2 TDs in the same game. Tua is the 3rd youngest ever to throw 6 TDs. I don’t think Baltimore will be the last team Miami makes look foolish, and I CANNOT wait for this week 3 matchup with the Bills. Grab ya popcorn!
