Fantasy Football Week 9 Waiver Wire Pick-Ups
Waiver wire claims throughout the year can make or break your team. Here we are, eight completed weeks of NFL football and your waiver wire is looking…ehhhh, a little rough. The purpose of this article is to help rebuild your team to be in a better position for the Fantasy playoffs. From Chris Carson managers to Aaron Jones managers, let me help you get your squad back on track. Here we go.
*Statistics and information based on 12-team full-ppr leagues*
Drew Lock, QB, Denver Broncos (6.2%):
Drew Lock put on his best performance of the year Sunday against Los Angeles Chargers. This was the first game this year that Lock looked completely healthy. Lock was dealing with a shoulder injury earlier in the season which caused him to miss Week 3 and 4. His first two games back from the shoulder injury, he combined for 443 yards, one rushing touchdown, and four interceptions. Yikes. However, with a healthy receiving core of DaeSean Hamilton, Noah Fant, Jerry Jeudy, and KJ Hamler, Lock was able to spread the ball around throwing for 248 yards, three touchdowns (each to different receivers), and one interception. This upcoming week Lock travels to Atlanta to face a defense that has allowed the MOST fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. Expect Lock to shine this upcoming week.
Jordan Wilkins, RB, Indianapolis Colts (0.9%):
If I were to tell you before the Colts v. Lions game that the Colts were going to rush for 119 yards, you would probably think to yourself, “Oh, Jonathan Taylor had a good game”. Well that was not the case. It was the two running backs behind Taylor that put their foot in the ground this week. When Taylor was struggling to find holes, the Colts were quick to go to back up, Jordan Wilkins. Week 8 was the first time Wilkins saw double-digit carries this season. Tallying up 89 yards and one touchdown with one catch for 24 yards, Wilkins had 20.3 fantasy points. With Jonathan Taylor suffering “a bit” of an ankle injury after Week 8’s game, the Colts can lean on Wilkins for early down work against the Ravens in Week 9.
J.D. McKissic, RB, Washington Football Team (44%):
Isn’t it nice to see your RBs catch passes out of the backfield in full-ppr leagues? McKissic is one of the best to do it in the NFL. In McKissic’s past four games played, he has racked up at least six catches in three of those games. This upcoming week, J.D. is looking to flourish against the Giants, a team he had already beat down in Week 6. Monday night, the Giants allowed seven catches for 42 yards to Ronald Jones and Leonard Fournette out of the backfield. J.D. who gets most of his work out of the backfield, has no reason to not repeat his Week 6 performance. Consider J.D. McKissic a RB3 option for this week.
Hunter Renfrow, WR, Las Vegas Raiders (18.4%):
Hunter Renfrow’s four of seven games played, he has racked up at least four catches. It is a matter of time when the Raiders’ offense starts to click with all their dangerous weapons including Darren Waller and Henry Ruggs. The Raiders face the Chargers this week in Los Angeles. The Chargers just surrendered 248 yards and three touchdowns to Drew Lock as well four pass catchers (DaeSean Hamilton, Jerry Jeudy, Noah Fant, and KJ Hamler) racking up 10+ fantasy points. Expect Hunter Renfrow to be a key pass catcher for the Raiders this upcoming week. Consider Renfrow in the WR3/WR4 range.
Logan Thomas, TE, Washington Football Team (11.8%):
George Kittle owners, I found your guy. Logan Thomas is among the top of the waiver wire at the Tight End position. Coming off a bye, Washington looks to get revenge on the Giants after the Week 6, 20-19 loss. Despite the loss, in that game Logan Thomas brought in three of four targets for 42 yards and a touchdown. Think it was a fluke? The next week Logan Thomas caught four of five targets for 60 yards and a touchdown. The Washington Football Team replacing QB Dwayne Haskins for Kyle Allen has benefited Logan Thomas so far. In week 9, Logan Thomas looks to keep his production up against the Giants at home.
