Bio

Jalen Moreno-Cropper was a versatile athlete at Buchanan High School in California. He played all over the field, taking snaps at wide receiver, running back, quarterback, and defensive back. His final season stat line included 565 receiving yards, 179 rush yards, two interceptions on defense, and seven total touchdowns. Cropper wasn’t a four-star recruit and chose to sign with Fresno State for the 2019 season. He played in 10 games with five starts in his freshman season. Moreno-Cropper actually totaled more rushing yards (343) than receiving yards (196) while scoring three touchdowns. In the covid-shortened 2020 season, Moreno-Cropper became the team’s top wide receiver. He took his 37 receptions for 520 receiving yards and five touchdowns in six games.

Bottom Line:

Jalen Moreno-Cropper is a thin-framed wide receiver who wins with quickness, acceleration, and quality route-running. He will be best operating in the short areas of the field where he can get the ball in his hands quickly and utilize his run-after-catch ability to create additional yardage. Moreno-Cropper struggles against press coverage and in contested situations but that should mostly be masked by keeping him in the slot at the NFL level. His versatility will help him get on the field, as he can provide value in a number of ways from alignment, to taking jet sweeps and screens, to fielding kicks, or even playing some wildcat quarterback. That dynamic ability could be the difference between a late day-three pick and going undrafted. In dynasty, Moreno-Cropper will only be relevant as a back-end sleeper in deep rookie drafts.
