BIO
A four-star prospect out of Texas, Dobbins held a reported 25 offers and took his talents out of state, spurning favorites Texas and Oklahoma to head to Columbus, Ohio and play for the Buckeyes. At the time of Dobbins arrival, Ohio State had All-Freshman Big Ten RB Mike Weber in the backfield. He dominated anyway and started a three-season streak of 1,000+ yards rushing. He saw a dip in his sophomore year, then exploded in his final season with the Buckeyes. Dobbins finished sixth in the 2019 Heisman Trophy voting, and ran for over 2,000 yards, marking the first such instance in Ohio State history.

This bruising back does not lack the ability to catch passes either. Dobbins amassed 71 receptions for over 600 yards during his time at Ohio State. Dobbins truly is a three-down back and should see a featured role in the NFL.
Unfortunately, Dobbins did not test at the NFL combine, but looking back at his high school NIKE+ testing numbers, we can see that Dobbins is a plus athlete. In high school at Nike’s The Opening, Dobbins posted a 4.45-second 40-yard dash, a 4.09-second short-shuttle, and a 43’ vertical jump, good to put Dobbins in the 99th-percentile of athletes his age (17 at the time). Dobbins was 201 pounds at the time of these measurements.

BOTTOM LINE:
I struggle to find holes in Dobbins’ game. He is most everything you could ask for in an NFL RB. Dobbins brings an incredible workload profile into the NFL and has shown durability to find continued success in the NFL. With his receiving abilities, Dobbins should not have to come off the field at all, but may find himself in more of a lead back role, working first and second down. Dobbins can absolutely handle a three-down role, the problem will be finding a landing spot that allows him to do so. He is one of the best RB prospects I’ve scouted.
